Predator Turned Prey

Predator Turned Prey is an alternative history fantasy comic that leans more toward fantasy than history, and has a mild steampunk flair. The target audience is young adult, but all ages will enjoy this webcomic.
What if the key events that made us who we are, such as the domestication of animals, the social reform, and even the development of certain technologies happened faster? What is the cruelties seen in the age of Rome, in the coliseums and in the slave auctions caused the Gods of old to grow angry enough they decided to do something about it?

I'm going to give a Full Report in the News Section within a few days! If you were there, let me know! And if you have any pictures, I'd love to see them! I was stuck at my table for the entire thing, so I love to see photos and hear stories!
Happy Easter, everyone.

History can be a downer, at times.

Thank you readers! Love the comments, sorry for the slow updates! Trying to keep up our buffer so Ally has time to spend with her newborn baby girl!
looking forward to more~
Sophie's Choice is a term now used to mean a hard/life altering decishion. A decishion with two negative outcomes, either way.

The origin, as many of you know, comes from Sophie's Choice, a 1982 American romantic drama novel turned movie. In that story, Sophie is given a choice of which of her two children will be sent to the labor camp, with the other being sent to the gas chamber right then and there. By who? The Nazi's of course. Damn them.

If she does not choose, both children are sent to the gas chamber. After crying that she couldn't do this, she couldn't choose, those damn Nazi's start dragging both kids to the gs chamber, when Sophie suddenly cries out for them only to take her daughter... figuring the young girl would die a terrible death in the labor camps anyway, she had the hope her older child, her son, would be able to survive.

This is that type of choice (almost). Give up the water will kill the animals, but you've spent days without water as it is... how long will you live without it? The only benefit is, either way, you don't have to live long with the guilt.
Site issues lasting over a month, yikes! Basically, whenever I try to upload a page I get a 404 error! Hopefully we can get back on schedule soon, but these next few pages will be jpg's instead of PNG's, just till we figure out what is preventing the higher quality from being loaded. Once we have it sorted, I'll upload higher quality pages.
Ally did a fantastic job here (http://www.hoam.deviantart.com). We wanted to show the two very different types of slaves. The ones in the pit are the "throw away" slaves. These are not specific to the story, this is based on fact in the world we all actually live in. These are the ones who were given whatever clothes their masters had lying around. They likely took away anything good, because their masters knew the outcome of this event...

Then you have the woman behind the emperor... She's very, very well dressed. Her outfit was dyed very dark, something only the most important people had because the dyeing process took a lot of time, was expensive, and to get it dark often took multiple times, often taking weeks to make a single outfit. She is a house slave, one that is important enough to keep inside. What he uses her for is most likely multiple things... I'm sure you can imagine why a man would want a beautiful woman around.

The throw away slaves are based on field workers. These are slaves most people associate slavery to, but in this comic they're drawn as if their owners were so poor they shouldn't even have slaves, since most didn't let their "property" dress like that in our world.

Anyway! Long history rant is over! I like to include these things because in school we didn't go over it much, and I see a lot of people looking at pictures of actual slaves and being very confused. It's not that they weren't in the mass pictures of towns from when photography first came around, or excluded from paintings, it's that they were dressed like anybody else. Their owners provided them with clothing and, quite often, used it as an excuse for why they could not go free. "You need to pay me back for the clothing, the food, and the shelter I provide for you." And even had their tools being "rented out" so they had to pay for those, as well, despite being unable to do their jobs without them.

The More You Know, and all that... Educational fantasy manga? What is this nonsense, I don't even...
Auto-update strikes again! I love that system. I really do.

Have any of you seen this: http://www.drawastickman.com/ It's hilarious! You draw a stick man and they make it come to life.

Most of these characters will never be seen again... but they all have back stories. No joke! Ally drew then and they all have such personality... I had to create their histories. It's rather fun, I may actually post short versions of their stories... in case anyone else is as insane about stuff like that as I am. (Don't lie, I know you're out there, I know you've done it!)

As a few people have mailed us to note it I felt it best to acknowledge this... Yes, this section of the book and thus the comic was highly influenced by my Roman History classes in High School. Things like this actually did happen... If there is anyone who is more interested in what went on in the Colosseum, there was a show on the History Channel called Animals of the Colosseum, or something like that... It was very helpful for scenes like this.

I know, cheesy title.
But that is the most demonic looking deer I have ever seen!

Oh! On a side note, my comic makers group on DA (http://comic-makers-club.deviantart.com/) is starting our own comic and anyone from smackjeeves who has a DeviantArt account and wants to join up is more than welcome!
Here's the information on it: http://comic-makers-club.deviantart.com/journal/Group-Comic-We-have-a-name-25788319 6
These updates are LATE Friday, but still friday!

Ally is recovering magnificently from her C-Section, and her little daughter is a great treasure on her life! She's already planning drawing time and looking toward the future! So we are, too!

Tomorrow, I will be at Amazing Arizona Comic Convention! I do not have a table there this time, but I'll be walking around and hope to get cards and such for some amazing new comics! I'll be posting pictures and things here on the site when I get home.

If you see me there, feel free to say hi! How will you know it's me? ... I guess you won't, unless you've met me at my table before.

...Or you're psychic!

... or a stalker...

Or realize I must be the one with the GIANT Pixi Stix.
Starting tomorrow I'll have to mark these as copyright 2012!

That is, assuming we all survive.

We were going to have an extra special holiday comic, but Allyson got an early Christmas gift in the form of her daughter being born early! So we'll have a super special comic for Easter, like we did for Halloween!

These are characters from the PTP comic you know and love, as well as from Corp. Agents, Ally's webcomic!
