@AsianIdiot16: I have such mixed feelings about this, especially now that I've been away from SJ for a few months. Webtoon requires exclusivity from its full-time “featured” artists, and the platform is much more limiting in how creators can connect with their readers. I'd have to give up pretty much everything that's made DOTU successful. Plus DOTU just isn’t the type of comic that would ever get *that* big with Webtoon’s demographic. I've always relied on a smaller but more passionate audience, which is the opposite of Webtoon's popularity-based model.

The life blood of my comic is still the home site (demonoftheunderground.com) + Patreon. I'm actually paid a better page rate that way than I would be as a featured Webtoon creator, while retaining full ownership of my comic. I wish I could afford more monthly pages, but the funding for that will come, and I’m no longer running myself into the ground while I wait for it to happen. (We’re really close to 3x pages/month now!)

Webtoon's 2017 Discover/Patreon program was a great bonus and worth closing the mirrors I closed. The 2018 program is horrible in comparison, and it made me lose a lot of faith in the platform.

I'm sad that SJ has fallen behind the times. I trust SJ's admin not to screw over creators a thousand times more than I trust tapas or webtoon or any of the new platforms based on the Korean webcomic publishing model, which tends to treat creators as commodities. If I ever got enough funding to bring back any closed mirror sites, this is the first one I'd revive.

Tbh webtoons has more solid comics and a better platform to get more viewers. Especially if you surpass the discovery page. And I think their office gives you an actual full time job if you get big enough? I'm not sure but it seems a bit more professional than smckjeeves. I check webtoons so often now and I barely check smackjeeves. And all the content on smackjeeves usually ends up dying anyay.

I’ve bookmarked your site link and shall follow you there!!!
I see! Understandable reasons! I'll go to the main site a lot anyway to read comments & look at other stuff. As long as I can read the comic, it doesn't where I read, so it's no big deal for me!

@JesBelle: Thanks for understanding, dude! And I should have also noted that the webtoon mirror is still a little behind because it's new, but it'll only take a few more updates to catch up because I post multi-page (mobile format) updates.

@portisHeart: It's all good. If I give readers more than one option for a place to read the comic, then it's entirely up to them which place they choose! And yes, as far as I know, the main site's RSS feed works. Let me know if you run into any issues.

sad to read that.. ofc your reasons are perfectly understandable. but if your rss on the main page works, i'll still follow dotu from there. never cared about update frequencies. not sure if i can comment on dotudotcom tho, maybe not.
sorry about not going over to webtoon - yet another site with my info etc (only for dotu since not interested in the rest)? nope...
good luck anyways! hope we can still "meet" somehow ^^

Webtoons -- I've been resisting signing up for another site, but I shall resist no longer! I must keep abreast of the exploits of young Pogo and his sausage-rat, even if they update but ONCE a month.

I mean, I'm following a comic right now that puts out a page a year on a good year, so I'm not going to abandon one this good just because I've been ever-so-slightly inconvenienced.

I'm sorry to announce that DOTU will not be updated on SJ anymore. This was a decision I had to make fairly quickly. I used to have a donator subscription on SJ, but now that I'm only updating twice a month, I won't make enough money in ad revenue on SJ to cover the cost of the subscription, and I can't run my own ads with a free account. Also, the donator subscription used to include a featured spot so paying comics could get more visibility, but it doesn't offer this anymore, so it's not worth the cost when other free hosting sites bring much more readers.

Lately, hosting at SJ is decreasing my audience at the main site and Webtoon, which both pay enough to support at least two pages a month and could pay for more if enough readers switched over or also supported the comic on Patreon.

I'm at a point where keeping the comic alive has become very difficult. Most readers won't stay if I can't update at least weekly, and the longer I'm unable to afford to update more frequently, the more likely it is that I'll have to give up the comic altogether. I'm closing down one other mirror site too, in order to focus on the main site, Webtoon, and especially Patreon.

If you enjoy the comic and want to see it continue, please consider supporting it on Patreon. If you can't, please subscribe and read on Webtoon, since Webtoon pays for both subscribers and readers. If you want to read the comic and all news updates exactly as you've been reading them on SJ, please read on the main site where all updates and info have been identical.

This is my oldest mirror, and I'm sad to have to close it down. But I have to do whatever I can to keep the comic running somewhere.
