Superheroines

A critical examination of the female superhero. I'm going to talk about what's good and what's bad about the depiction of women in the role of the superhero. But, I'm going to try and do it while maintaining a sense of humor. Also, this is a project for a Women's Studies class.

@Rijacki Torment: Thanks so much! I really hope that some of the more positive trends will pick up and people will finally realize that female characters are just as interesting, if not more, without the sexy outfits as they are with them. :)

@Remmus: I'm glad you liked it. :) Thank you for being someone who commented on almost every page and having a conversation with me. Believe it or not, it really did help. Stay awesome!
Excellently done!
Sadly, sexism in various visual media and entertainment has been prevalent for so long there are some who think it is 'needed' in those media and/or in certain genre for those genre to flourish. It gives me great heart and hope for the future that there is a growing number of individuals, not all female, that are finally saying "no", that sexism isn't necessary nor is it desirable. There have been many changes in the past few decades and this is the push forward to the future I am the most delighted to see.

Always remember that an avalanche can start with a single pebble. Never think your one voice is not enough to effect change.

@alwayssmileback: [Snort] Yeah, they miss seeing her fight in a ridiculous outfit that emphasized her body rather than her ability [rolls eyes]. Her new outfit is definitely more pragmatic and, to me, more realistic. I actually like her more because I can more easily imagine myself talking to someone like her. Talking to someone dressed in her previous outfit? That's just ridiculous. ;P

@Remmus : I like it too! Unfortunately, it's been receiving quite a bit of negative backlash. People seem to hate change...

Am I the only one who's in love with the new version of Wonder Woman? Seriously, she's rocking that outfit xD
@alwayssmileback: I love how the go-to argument for sexism is, "well, you don't talk about guys!" And then I gently ("gently" being highly debatable ;D ) correct them that, yes, I do correct people for making sexist remarks regarding males. However, that does not excuse *them* for making sexist remarks towards women. [Sigh] And people wonder why I hate the majority of the population.

Thanks! It was fun to read, and I think it should get more publicity and support =)
@Remmus: Oh, man. People start getting really annoyed when I'm around because of my constant pointing out of sexism. Yeah, comic books are just the tip of the iceberg. It's everywhere.

Thank you so much for reading and commenting so often! It really means a lot to me to have someone reading my comic. :)
Grrrrr
I'm still constantly pissed off by this, and the influence it (not just comic books, but the media in general) has on young girls.

Awwww! I'm going to miss you. I always looked forward to reading your comic/project. I also enjoyed having a fellow comrade against sexism. =)
The last page! Thanks for reading everyone! Just warning you, there will be one more page uploaded, but it will just be sources because this is a project for a class.

In case you couldn't figure what T&A stood for (NSFW Audio): http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=Q-yjj6_LBCs#t=135s

This shot is infamous for one artist in particular. Rob Liefeld. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Liefeld

This shot really, really bothers me for the reasons I listed on the page. Also, this was the commercial I was referencing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpi2IAec9Ho
Really, FIAT? Really?!?

This is the last official page. I will, however, be doing a bonus page after this. Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed it!

I do enjoy Post-Reboot Wonder Woman. I can't believe I said I enjoyed Post-Reboot anything.

Ah, yes. Young Avengers. Sadly, they don't appear very often. Luckily, they recently were involved in a major Marvel event. Maybe we'll see more of them!

Continuing on Hawkeye. The reason why I like that her gender isn't the focus is that the guys on the team have long since realized that she can totally compete with them intellectually and almost physically (hey, they all have superpowers, give her a break). They write her as a person, not someone just defined by her sex.

Yep. She-Hulk. She's getting...better. I will say that much. I'm going to be covering some newer characters on the next page, so you can look forward to that.

Also, this is my stance on the whole Marvel vs. DC thing. The reason why I love Marvel is that they are working, still slowly, to make their comics better and more appealing to a larger audience. And less sexist, homophobic, and racist. DC on the other hand, I love you guys, you gave us Batman, but you seriously need to re-evaluate much of your company.

@Remmus: Yeah, I messed up. I forgot to put this in the new chapter when I uploaded it. It should be fixed now. :)
