Pokemon SAKOHJU

by sakohju
Different adventures kick off with different characters in different parts of the Pokemon world! There's darkness in the Pokearth, and it's not just Team Plasma. A group by the name of Team Midnight is on the rise. However, their biggest obstacle appears when the protoganists come together to form SAKOHJU, an organization dedicated to ridding the Pokemon world of evil. As the fight rages, it's unclear how many will make it out alive, as it all comes down to SAKOHJU vs. Team Midnight...

I started this comic a couple years ago so some parts of it (beginning especially) aren't all that good. It's become more of a sketch comic and it's a learning experience for me, I improve and as my first project I'm seeing this thing to the end no matter what. I also have lots of characters based off real people. I will say that now. Also breaks the fourth wall. A LOT.

...mostly. I want to take a minute to say some things regarding the journey this comic has been on, and where it will go in the future. This will be a pretty long and somewhat personal note, so I apologize for the length. Feel free to scroll to the bottom if you're not into reading this sort of long thing ^^;

When I started this comic, I was a middle schooler with a lot of free time on my hands. I poured that free time into drawing comics and making art. I would draw like a machine and could churn out entire chapters in a very short amount of time with no sign of slowing down, and I loved every bit of it. I just couldn't stop, and I never once dreamed that any of my comics would have to pause.
The first real hiatus came after I finished middle school, and had to move away to a new city on the other side of the country. That was understandable, I still drew as much as I could during the move and once we were settled in I resumed as soon as I could. I didn't want to move though and didn't like the new city, and spent the next four years hell bent on returning to my home town.
The loathing I felt for the new place consumed me, and during high school I needed a distraction, something to focus on and throw myself into so entirely I could forget some of those feelings in order to keep my sanity. That thing ended up being band. I was THE ultimate bandie in high school. I play percussion, so I rose to be a section leader in the drum line, I attended every single marching band and pep band gig, I did jazz band, and most demanding of all, during the Fall Musical season I would do the pit orchestra, which I learned basically meant sacrificing a month of your life to live in that pit under the stage and do nothing but eat, sleep and play music. It was great fun, but also very time-consuming and for the first time I found myself not being able to have time for other things like regularly updating this comic. I always came back though, but as I got older and my workload with school grew I started needing to take a few more short breaks here and there to keep from burning out completely. I also found that as my art grew and improved, it also took me longer to finish pages and art pieces.
Upon graduating high school, I immediately knew where I wanted to go to college. The university in my home town was my ticket back home, my chance to move back to the city I grew up in. I got into the university and my home coming was just about everything I dreamed it would be. And with no more tri-weekly 6 AM drum line or jazz band rehearsals or other extracurricular obligations, for the first time in a long time I actually had a lot of free time to really regularly update my comics again. It was awesome.
That first semester of college was super chill though, and I didn't realize just how relaxed my schedule was until I continued to pile more work onto myself in the following semesters and advanced to some more difficult courses. I'm majoring in computer science, and needless to say some of the coursework is pretty demanding. Where in high school I could get straight A's without ever studying a bit, I'm now learning the hard way that in college I need to actually form some study habits and really put in the work outside of class in order to be successful.
I've had to learn to really prioritize. I've had to take much longer breaks from my comics in order to focus on my schoolwork. While I've still been able to juggle a wide variety of activities with my busy class schedule and numerous personal projects, I'm starting to realize I can't do everything and sometimes I need to make sacrifices.

I have decided to pursue a career in video game development, and hope some day to start my own game company. I already have a couple of pet projects in the works. I love making comics, and will never stop, and I certainly intend to finish SAKOHJU, but as I've gotten older my priorities have shifted and there are other projects I will need to put before this one.
So, regarding the future of this comic: Yes, I have every intention of finishing this comic! The project is very close to my heart and I want to see it through if for nothing else than out of loyalty to my younger self.
The main issue that's holding me back with this comic is the script. Pages for SAKOHJU actually happen very quickly and don't take me very much time, but I've been trying to streamline and at least somewhat improve the story that I originally wrote as a 12-year old. It's actually not that great and there's a lot of things in the plans for future volumes that need to be cut or reworked.
I'm not sure how much I'll manage this summer, considering that I'm going to be taking a couple of summer classes and hopefully getting a job or internship (been applying around and interviewing, hopefully I can land one!), and I have some other projects that will be taking priority over this one.

Again, I apologize for this long note. If you actually read that whole thing...thanks for actually reading the whole thing, haha.
This was my first comic, and it is very near and dear to my heart. For me, it's a really important part of connecting to my younger self. So if you do read this comic, thank you very much for coming on this journey with me, and I hope maybe you'll stick around for the future :)
7 Years!!?
Wow, I miss drawing Lenore. This has definitely been the longest break this comic has ever taken, but rest assured I have on-and-off been working on reworking the script so that I can get back to drawing future volumes. I can't believe it's already been 7 years since I started doing this whole comic thing...thank you all so much for reading and sticking with me! SAKOHJU will return hopefully soon!!
Volume end!
And this concludes Volume 7.5 Shane Moments! Yeah, when jazz band ended that year, we all went out for ice cream after our last concert. There happened to be a show car on display nearby in the shopping center, and Shane proceeded to shamelessly dance in front of it. What a guy. Also I can't draw nice cars. In actuality it looked nothing like that. =P

I hope you enjoyed this weird and random little autobiographical filler volume, there will probably still be a delay as I rework the story, but rest assured Volume 8 is on it's way. :) Thanks for your patience!

ONE OF MY PROUDEST MOMENTS!!!
I've never broken an instrument before!! I was so proud of this I had to draw and share it ^_^
Basically, in my school band, one of the pieces we played at our final concert was this awesome tune called ghettoblaster by William Pitts, and it used a lot of bucket drumming in the percussion section. I'm honored to say instead of a bucket, I'm the only one who got to play a trash can. XD We already had buckets and trash cans available to use since we had used them for a previous performance, and a lot of them had been broken. So, having never broken a stick or drum in my entire career as a percussionist, it was my goal that on concert night, I would bust a hole through that trash can. I'm happy to say that during my brief solo during the percussion break, I succeeded!! I'm so proud!!!
A Sentimental Note
I blinked and six years have flown by.

This comic holds so much nostalgia for me. Even though I cringe every time I see the disproportionate and anatomical failures that I drew way back in Volume 1, it still warms my heart. Even though things have been slow recently, Volume 8 is on the way and I can't wait to draw it. To those of you who read this comic, thanks so much for reading and sticking with me. Here's to more happy years of SAKOHJU!

...This felt weird to draw but trust me it was actually a lot weirder in real life.

Also, a bit of news...you may or may not have noticed there is now a Characters page on the comic site. It's still largely under construction, but I've been brushing up on my HTML and CSS to code pages for my comic sites and I think a characters page will definitely be helpful for this comic to keep track of the massive roster. XD I will put up a further notice when I'm actually done with it. =P

I don't remember what song this was for, but it was funny.

Also, I have to confess I've never seen Avatar: The Last Airbender, so I don't actually understand most references to it. ^^;
Aaand I'm back. I'm sorry this is taking so long. TT_TT Volume 7.5 is almost over, I promise! However, this comic might be a bit slow still for a while as since I was travelling I have a great deal of schoolwork to catch up on, not to mention all the usual stress factors that come with the last month and a half or so of the school year. x_x
I happened to have a pink gel highlighter in my backpack =P This was one of those things that's just to fabulous not to include here.

And in other news, it looks like I'll likely be travelling for the next few weeks, so there'll be a bit of a slow down in updates until I get back. Thanks for your patience!
@sakohju: No problemo it's my honour :3
To the tune of "We Are the Champions" ^^
