Gryphon Rise

Gryphon Rise

His 14 years of life have not left Kern with much standing in the village. Regarded as cursed, Kern is determined to prove his worth. He takes his chance when Sumeni, a noble, comes promising a reward to the one who brings him a gryphon feather. Along with being unable to abide lies, gryphons are known to be fiercely territorial. Of course things don't turn out as Kern expected.

@The Orange Cow: Thanks!
Yeah, Sumeni sort of took the fall this time, his biggest crime was the bloated ego nobility can have. There will be a follow up on him in the sequel.

@The Orange Cow: well, something certainly follows. Depends on who you ask if it's considered "bad" or not.

@The Orange Cow: Whimsy, I wanted him to appear in this book somehow. He plays a big role in the next one.

@The Orange Cow: Correct- Unfortunately, people tend to hear what they want to hear in mob situations, and Kern isn't the loudest voice >,<

Grats on finishing!

I actually feel a bit bad for Sumeni. He may have been the villain, but his actions didn't seem like senseless cruelty. It looked like he was trying to help the kings sister somehow.

Then again, while it is somewhat understandable to be indifferent to harm against animals(assuming gryphons could be classified as such), it's pretty cold to let a kid take the blame for ones actions, especially when it would probably mean his death.

Thanks for posting this, looking forward to what you do next!

Eh, a fresh start seems nice. Hopefully the bad luck doesn't follow.

You can't lie in front of gryphons, right? Shouldn't saying you didn't kill anything be enough?

For those who are curious
No, Kern's journey doesn't end here. I do have plans for a sequel, but I'll be focusing on some other stories first. If you are interested in seeing the return of these characters (except Sumeni and Saphy) feel free to let me know.

This comic started as a test I gave myself to see how I could balance school, work, and comics. I learned a LOT about that this last year once I switched to a full time work load. Safe to say I'll be planning my next story with much more of a time buffer and working in chapters for better pacing.

Any comments or thoughts on the story feel free to let me know. :D feedback is greatly appreciated.
