Iifa

by Vervain
Weakened after the final conflict, Zidane and Kuja find themselves trapped deep inside the dangerously unstable Iifa Tree. With teamwork as their only chance of escape, the two are forced to face their intertwined pasts, themselves and each other. But with their motives so far apart and contempt still ripe between them, can they really settle their differences long enough to escape the dying tree before it's too late?

A Final Fantasy IX doujinshi, set after the final battle. Contains tastefully done BL, interwoven underneath an actual plot.

I hope you'll continue this!
Update? Please~? It's a really good comic! Please come back to it!
I honestly think it would have better if Beatrix was the queen of Alexandria and garnet's adoptive mother, Brahne was really cliche, generic and uninteresting, with a weak motivation, not to mention sending out the unfortunate implication that ugly people are bad. There is this fanfic that has Beatrix as this called "the thief and his princess" and tells the love story MUCH better than the game which was really poorly written.

Beatrix's motivation could have been that she was decived into thinking that Alexander could revive the dead, and the desire to bring back her dead husband and biological daughter (the king and princess) got the better of her, and she DOSN'T die (because FF9 should be more original and don't have the cliche "parent gets killed plot" that previous ff's and later ff's did a bunch of times.
Update?

I love your art, the drawing is beautiful. I enjoy the sense of humor you have with the characters and the store is a good flow, I played the game and always wonder huh? how did that happen at the end. Keep up the lovely work!!!
This is Great
Hey!

There's not really much that I wanted to say, except that I've been watching this site since this summer when I stumbled across it, and it is legitimately one of the best pieces of FF9 fiction I've ever seen (and I've seen a LOT...and written some, but that's beside the point). The art looks gorgeous and really conveys so much more than most stories can. In particular, I absolutely fell in love with Kuja's flashback scenes (Kuja's past is one of those topics that never ceases to entrance me) and his interaction with Zidane is...like some of the stuff that goes on in my head, but so so much better. Even though you haven't updated in months, I still check this site every few days, and I just wanted to let you know that you have another devoted follower and fan.
It's been a while! ^-^ I'm glad you're back!!

I really want to see Kuja and Zidane again!! Update soon!

I just stumbled upon this and started reading, and it's...absolutely wonderful. Between your beautiful art style, your perfect characterization, and your insight into the characters' pasts, I have already fallen in love with this and will continue to follow it rigorously.

So much words...
Ahaha I had no idea this page was going to be this wordy, but I somehow had to crowd in everything. Ah well.

This little diversion was fun, but it did remind me that I'm sort of rubbish at writing as certain characters. I hope these two seem IC. I've got to work harder~.

Anyway, that's the end of this snapshot. Next page, we're back at the tree, fending off monsters. Fun times.

Oh, Steiner...
He means well. He's also pretty difficult to draw for some reason.

Also I know this is super late. Life, y'know. Life. Just one page to go of this little diversion before we're back to the Iifa tree.
haha. clankclankclank xD Love this doujin.
Stainer is not a very good lair or spy....V^-^.....But he cares for Garent, so I guess it makes up for his clumsiness.

Garent must be very lonely without Zidane, but she's though it out until he returns!

Update soon! ^-^
I can teach you but I'd have to charge? XD Oh god that portrait XD The sparkle just makes it.

@Molly-sama: Steiner doesn't have much of a feminine side, alas.
