@mitchellbravo: Haha, I think you're the first person (including comments on DA) to mention that staring does happen, even if Teague is being a dickhead now. That doesn't excuse it but... explain it?

There's no second page here buuut they'll definitely be bumping into each other again! SMALL WORLD with not enough parking spaces :c

@arswiss: Thank you! :)

Aaahh and the interaction is so perfectly spot on, I can picture her just looking over at him because she RECOGNIZES him and him misinterpreting it because the other way is more common.... aaaahh AAAAAAA

I WAS SO HAPPY TO SEE THIS IN MY UPDATED COMIC LIST AAAAAAAH seriously this has made my day and this is AFTER i already went to the beach and had a fancy cocktail at a restaurant???!!?!?!??!??

Really excited to see where this conversation is going to go :D :D :D (if not now, then like.. in the future when they interact again :P)

A friendly reminder that all my characters have their arsehole moments. Teague, Michelle, BEHAVE, this isn't Hunger Games. :|

I guess they'll continue this on tumblr...

I was tired of late spring/early summer rain reminding me about this page and now I have different weather reminding me of different pages I'm late with. :P

We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year...

I'm not reuploading pages of the intermission and Chapter 2 until the new Chapter 1 is finished, but they can be found on my DeviantArt page, along with other Cop Story art.
This is where our hero deals with more blows.

And if you blur your eyes you could be anywhere you want yourself to be.
Oh yeah it's bad,
I know you want to laugh,
So laugh!
But sometimes second best is all you're gonna get.
Oh yeah, oh somebody told me...

Pulp - Seconds

It can only go up from here, right? Right?
You know how sometimes you've been away from a place, and you've changed and everything changed? And you come back, trying to pretend it's the same and back to normal... only it's not and there's no such thing as normal.

And then some jerk appears to remind you that it'll never be the same.
Oh Chauncey, you've got grey hair...

I was picking between a bunch of songs when I was choosing the one that'd play on the radio but I ended up choosing "Traveler in Time" by Uriah Heep. It seemed to fit both Nutter's and Chance's situation.
Dogsbody = someone who is given boring, menial tasks to do

I'll leave you to figure out the rest of the nicknames Nutter gave his colleagues by yourselves.
This page was created during a weird time of my life. I spent it between being drunk, sobering up and being in various degrees of emotional pain. The important part is, the page is here and it could be worse.

Same as Newton might not be the best place in the universe but it could be worse.
Good news: Nutter is back. Bad news: pretty much everything else.

Lemme talk about this page for a bit.

- this page and the following page and a half are all that's left of the very first draft of the script (back when the story was called The Time Police)
- this was supposed to be a case about Kevin but now Kevin lives in London, not Newton
- I think the previous 10 pages didn't hurt the story to say the least
- the lamp on Nutter's desk is the same lamp I had on my desk when I lived at my grandparents'
- actually, some visual sides of Newton and the overall mood are influenced by the part of my life I spent living with grandparents in a small rural-ish town
- I don't like skipping time periods in fiction because it distances the reader from the characters since we are unable to skip miserable periods of our lives in real life but it was needed (for those who are curious, Chance spent the time on a leave recovering and trying to avoid physical therapy and Nutter was studied by various police official trying to decide what pushed him to a murder and what to do with him now)
- the perfect soundtrack for this page would be Mad World by Gary Jules with flashback moments sounding like radio static

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for the daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I wanna drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow
And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take
When people run in circles its a very, very
Mad world, mad world
The pacing is a little chopped up on this page but that's what you get with memories.

So which one do you believe, Chance's memories or the "official" version?
In our winter city,
The rain cries little pity
For one more forgotten hero
And a world that doesn't care.
So how can you tell me you're lonely,
And say for you that the sun don't shine?
Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London
I'll show you something to make you change your mind.

Ralph McTell - Streets of London

This moment with Chance standing by the window always made me think of this song even though the scene takes place in the summer.

Right about the time I was scripting the scene my good friend got in a car accident. Nobody was hurt but it was quite unpleasant and her story of the events heavily inspired this sequence.

I guess this goes out to all you people behind the wheel. Take care. Stay safe.
A while ago a friend gave me a song to listen to. I don't even remember how it came up. It was written by a witness of a plane crash from the point of view of the person in the plane. I'm not linking it here because it was the most morbidly gut-wrenching song I've ever heard. But there was a line that stuck with me - "I try to move my arm and see that it's not there." I guess this is what I was trying to describe with this page.

Sometimes there is no evil intent. Just a nurse passing you a glass on the wrong side. Because she happened to be there. It was not supposed to happen this way, it was supposed to be someone carefully and slowly informing you but... life is like that sometimes.

Incidentally this marks the half of the first part of the chapter.

All the hugs go to DI Chauncey today.
Nobody here can know how I feel
Cause tonight is the night I fell asleep at the wheel

Barenaked Ladies - Tonight Is The Night I Fell Asleep At The Wheel
In which DI Chauncey is upset.

DI Larry Larate actually appeared before (look back and find him!) but this is the first page where you can properly appreciate the fact that he's a jerk.
Welcome to the first day of the rest of my life
The tension is so thick you can cut it with a knife
Something's happened: things will never be the same
There's blood on the carpet - I'm rewiring my brain

Policeman's Xmas Party - Five For Fighting

Sorry for the long absence, I've been earning money and boring adult stuff like that.
Take a look at the lawman beating up the wrong guy-

Oh Nutter, Nutter, Nutter, Nutter...
This is the sound of someone losing the plot -
making out that they're okay when they're not.
You're gonna like it, but not a lot
And the chorus goes like this-
Here comes the fear again...

Pulp "The Fear"
