Once part of a larger comic, Sten and the huldra have since been scrapped in order to keep the other comic at a reasonable size (even then it's pretty damn huge). Still, before that happened I made a background comic about them, which I finished in 2013 but hasn't been uploaded. So clearly something for the times around Halloween, because *huldras* right? Right.

Aaaand the end. To the background introduction-to-each-other of two characters that have been scrapped from the big story. Haha, I still think they're adorable, but I'm partial to huldras so...

Originally he was going to give her clothes to wear, but... eh. She's comfortable in the nude, suck it up Sten.

So basically, the huldra's main thing was to seduce men who worked in the forest in order to steal their soul. Probably because those men were out in the woods for quite a lot of time and were pretty damn keen on some lady folk who was into them coming by. Yet also with the realization that any lady folk who did wander around in the woods and wanted to bone them probably, you know, had ulterior motives.

Among the powers that the huldra is said to have, is the strength to effortlessly bend horseshoes with her bare hands so I figure carrying deer and moose wouldn't be a big deal. Also, if you are kind to her, she can grant you hunting and fishing luck for the rest of your life.

While we worked on this, Amare and I discussed the possibility that a huldra's female children will be born hulda, but that their male children are unusually clever foxes - and thus the origin of so many clever fox myths.

Since the setting is Sweden, the newspaper is in Swedish. There is actual text, completely unreadable at this size, but I had a lot of fun writing it (this was made around the time of the horse meat scandal, to explain the picture).

The huldra (also known as a skogsrå, or the lady of the forest) is a Scandinavian mythological creature that lives in the woods. Her back is either hollow or made of bark, and she has the tail of either a cow or a fox. While she seduces men to steal their souls, she is also entirely capable of having regular, happy marriages with mortal men. The key to dealing with her is to show her respect and kindness, and you will repaid with the same.
