And that's it for chapter VIII! As usual, I'll be taking a break to get a head start on thumbnailing and drawing chapter IX. The week after next, I'll post the chapter break. It'll be some Dunnin/BD-world history.

If you don't want to wait two weeks to see the chapter break, you can watch me draw it right now on Twitch!

@Captain Ghost: Don't worry about it! If you asked something similar before, I can't remember either xP I like answering questions like this, anyway.

@eishiya: whoops, super belated sorry, but thank you for the reply! makes sense that it'd depend on the kind of look you're going for~

(also my apologies if i somehow derped and already asked you something like this before, i woke up the morning after asking and got a really weird impression of deja vu haha. hopefully just my imagination but my memory has been known to be rubbish at times, whoops @V@ anyway, either way, thanks for your time! o/

@Captain Ghost: Thanks!

My thumbnailing/rough sketching depends on the final look I want. If I want something dominated by colour rather than lines and spot blacks, such as a painting, then I usually just sketch in the major components with vague lines, and then go straight to colour, and figure out my values in colour. Sometimes I might do a value underpainting if the sketch isn't clear enough on its own.

It's only for artwork with spot blacks that I do thumbnails with spot blacks. Some of those works are colour, though generally something with spot blacks will have simple colours to let the inks do the heavy lifting.

that WIP is really cool!
outta curiosity, if you do coloured works, do you approach em similarly? (in the values/blocking in the darks? ish kinda way, prior to sketching lines)

Thanks for sharing the animation o:

I know I should be worried about Tim, but I'm distracted by Alain looking pretty (and his nice shoes)

I'm glad that I didn't know I'd have to draw the stairs more than once when I first designed them during chapter 4. Had I known, I would've been tempted to make them simpler and boring.

Lots of news today:
1. Last week, I forgot to mention that there's a new voting reward on TWC :D Vote to see a WIP animation of the middle panel on the previous page.
2. It's the last week to get your vote in on the chapter break art poll! It's open to all patrons, no matter the pledge amount. Dunnin is currently winning.
3. <s>I'm streaming today! Doing some pixel art, drawing a location or two for my game. Come watch the pixel-pushing on Twitch :D</s> Finished streaming!

Roger <3 It's been so long.

<s>I'm streaming today! Drawing some new tiles for my game. https://www.twitch.tv/eishiya</s>

There's a new image up on TopWebcomics! It's a WIP animation of the middle panel on this page, vote to see it.

@Captain Ghost: Thank you! The high contrast of black and white makes a lot of things easier, so it doesn't take as much thought/work as it might look ;D

He's really starting to steam, huh... eek... poor Tim D:

(I continue to be amazed by how carefully the blacks all appear laid out... so very lovely! Everything reads so crisply~)

Running into the light that hurts you, and then running what must be the better part of two miles. Brilliant, Tim, brilliant.

The next chapter break poll is up on Patreon! There are only two more voter-chosen chapter breaks left, so get your vote (and optionally, suggestions!) in if there's something specific you'd like to see.

Having a buffer is weird, I don't remember drawing the page because it was more than a few days ago ;_;

I hate ads and refuse to put them on my comics, so BD makes zero money from advertising. It's only thanks to people helping out via Ko-Fi and Patreon that BD makes any money at all. If you enjoy the comic, please consider tossing a few bucks my way when you're able :D

@Dartania: It was overcast. An unfortunate thing about webcomic time is we won't see that the sun's out now until next week >:

(Also, we've actually already seen him steam without noticing ;D)
