The Silent Bard

The Silent Bard

by featherpencil
Two princes rule the flourishing land of Malacca.

While the first-in-line, Kencana, is sure to inherit the throne, his talented brother , Kurnia, is favoured by many.

As the days pass where Prince Kencana is seemingly losing to his younger brother, he finds a chance behind the strumming of a talented bard from the Middle East.

----------------------------------
disclaimer:
- The Silent Bard is based towards the end of the Majapahit era, around 1496AD. This is a historical fiction comic, I kinda mix a lot of other eras as well to suit the story. References are mostly from books published by Malaysia and Singapore since I cannot understand Indonesian (which sucks btw cos they defo have a lot of good shit). This comic does not intend to insult any religion, race, or culture - any sort of misrepresentation/ill meaning is meant for the characters and story and a reflection of society.

-This comic features two male lovers, it sucks that this needs to be in the disclaimer, but well, maybe one day there will be no need to.

-There may be slightly mature themes such as blood, spirituality, and sensual acts.

@bblue: i study art mainly by 'show essence' so i emphasize on making sure it has the feel i want, rather than if it looks like what its supposed to. im nt saying its the right thing to do, and i do punch myself for being lazy whenever i see kim junggi's works, but yes essence is important...and so is hardwork *sobs

this is kind of a (lazily-drawn) beautified version of the throne room, i wanted it to have more grandeur and a e s t h e t i c .

also, malay wooden carvings are no joke man - i regret wanting to do a period story just because i saw deewani mastaani orz

Hello, I've been wanting to make this comic since a few months back. I was inspired by Deewani Mastaani from the movie Bajirao Mastaani. I'm pretty excited about this comic, and I hope it goes well ;;;;;;

Do check out Deewani Mastaani too, it's great https://youtu.be/h6lHUn20J5g

**keris is the weapon used during the olden days in Nusantara. legend has it that they're connected to the spiritual world and most of them are gone the moment their owners die. They're of various sizes and length, and depending on what type, has a few curves to them as well. They're not as extravagant as the swords from India and Turkey, but they still give off a pretty mystical feel

** batik is a fabric which patterns are designed using wax. they're VERY fun to draw //groaaaannsss
