@Rocket Axxonu: Mako is...VERY old. I'm trying not to have the comic weigh too much on canon characters for interest. So he's mostly just there to be a plot device from time-to-time then leave.

@Rocket Axxonu: If Anmu hadn't sworn an oath of non-violence Niiko would have died years ago at her hand.

@Rocket Axxonu: There's definitely more to them than just an organization of do-gooder waterbenders protecting spirits. ;)

He sure doesn’t look that innocent the way he’s dressed, lol, but it’s hard to say. (Wonder if they’ll find Tetsuya, hopefully nothing’s happened to him since he lost those papers. They looked...kind of like a hit list.) Guess we’ll find out.

The ‘Protection Forces’ are intriguing as an organization. (They’re kind of like the police, with a focus on protecting spirits? And they’re founded and run by waterbenders? That was the sense I got from their color scheme and some of the conversations.) Their uniforms are so militaristic, I love that, and the kind of white, sterile environment with the high-tech card scanners where they were keeping Niiko makes me think of a science lab. Looking forward to seeing what role they play later down the road. They seem like they’re on the right side, but seems like there’s something mysterious or possibly even sinister below the surface.

And, it’s Miu to the rescue. (I love the design for her, I think you said she’s a hyena-hog? So cool, and I love how she just kind of fits with Niiko somehow in a way that’s hard to define. A bit smaller and less imposing than Naga, kind of rougher and more wild, like a street dog.)

Lol, panels 3 and 4 are so good, I feel like I was almost as shocked as Qu Lin. So hilarious. XD!!

I just love the power and energy you capture in the bending attacks, fire in particular is so hard. (Have to feel kind of bad for that guard though, lol.) Also love the ominous feel of the red tint of the alarm system.

Or he’s going to be soon, once Anmu gets a hold of him.

So interesting to find out Mako is still around, and is kind of in charge. (It’s so fun getting to see an older Jinora, wonder if we’ll see Mako eventually too, if Niiko meets him that should be an interesting interaction, lol. At least, I'm assuming this is the same Mako--how old is Mako in this world?)

I absolutely love how you rendered this backstory, the silhouettes just add the right amount of distance (given that this is in the past) while also lending an air of mystery. Going for sketchy striations as opposed to solid black also reflects the restless energy and desperation that she would have had to have been feeling--really love this sequence.

Anyway, I'll be curious to see where this particular plot thread might be leading.

@Raff: She'll be fine. She's tough as nails.
