Godwit

by MoxMox
All of sudden, as the world looks more and more like a dystopia, creatures that everyone thought were only myths and legends show up all around the world, adding to the global chaos. France isn't an exception to that phenomenon, and a lot is going on in front of unaware eyes as the tensions reach their climax...

I'm super sad to hear you've fallen out of love with Godwit but I understand the feeling. If I can leave you with any words of wisdom its that you should work on what makes you happy. Don't worry about the plot being "cringey" or "unorganized." But if you no longer enjoy working on it, don't force it.
No one's first comic is perfect. No one's 2nd, 5th, or 100th comic is perfect. Each one is a journey and you come out of it better each time. I personally loved Godwit and for your first comic... it was amazing. You could tell you put so much love and excitement into it.
When I look back at the first few chapters of AotG, hell even the entire plot I cringe too. It's a part of growing up and maturing. I still find time to work on it because I like to make comics. I make it for me. But if the day comes where I just have 0 love for it then I will stop. No point in forcing yourself.

I hope you find another project that inspires you the way Godwit in the beginning. Please keep us updated, I look forward to whatever your creative mind comes up with!! <3 <3

I'm super proud you started this project, man :) You joined the ranks of someone who had the guts to launch into something, instead of grow old thinking 'I could have, but I never did'.

I really hope that your displeasure with the structure of his idea will be fertile ground for inspiration for lessons learned, so you can create something fresh and motivating that you're happy with and confident about.

The thing I really really hope you can avoid is being super hard on yourself and falling into a habit of overcriticizing every new idea you have, burning them to the ground before they ever have the chance to grow into something lasting.

As much as you might now see Godwit as some kind of embarrassing failure riddled with flaws, it spoke to me, and it really breathed something unique and interesting, that I was curious to see grow. So please, don't think of it as a failure, maybe more as a first ambitious experiment that now served its purpose as practice for the next thing you can pour your heart into.

Nothing is perfect, no story is ever devoid if issues, no art is ever without its natural blemishes, no idea is ever 100% groundbreaking or never done before. But please, don't think '100%' is necessary for a story to be worth telling, or for a picture to be worth drawing and sharing. Creating something is a special and personal process, and please never be afraid of showing your new ideas to the world because they might not be so great and lofty that nobody could ever find any flaws with it.

I know it can be difficult to feel confident when surrounded by the tall mountains of ultra-popular creators we admire, in the face of the world's greatest works ever, and exposing your stuff to a sea of people who find it easy to find faults in things but who've rarely ever had the courage or wit to make something of their own.

You have an amazing world inside you, don't you ever lose faith that your ideas are worth it. They are. You deserve to stand by it and say 'I made this, and it took effort and dedication and my very own thoughts, and I'm glad I did it no matter if it has its flaws'.

Godwit is Discontinued
I thought about this for a few months, asked around for advice and I have come to the conclusion that Godwit has to be discontinued. Why ? Well, first off I don't want to dissapoint readers and pretend I will update someday. I've grown to cringe at the plot and my nonexistent organisation of the comic. I started Godwit on a whim, inspired by philosophical, analitic and more abstract texts, making it more like a hot take. The symbolism I wanted to add was all over the place, adding alchemical, celtic, jewish and so on in a mediocre pot-pourri, and I didn't look into my subjects in depth. Looking at the end chapter, they make me sound super preachy. Ugh. These factors made that project look amateurish at best and downright offensive at most, not even mentionning the page layout and all.
I wanted to make 7 chapters, 50 pages each, with a Q&A at the end of odd chapters and 5 bonus pages at the end of even chapters, totalling at 365 pages without counting Q&As. This would have been great if I made more than just a plotline, however this was all terribly planned.
As usual, I bit far too much than I could chew.
Will I redo Godwit in the future ? Probably not. I've grown too distant to the plot to really feel it anymore.
An illustrated philosophical thought ? Why not, but on something that I fully grasp.
Another webcomic ? Yes, but not something as long as Godwit.

I am genuinely sorry that it has come to this, and I have only my own inexperience to blame on that. Please do leave a comment if you got any questions, be it about what I planned for the future chapters before discontinuing, or about my projects. Reflecting on that, it was an exciting journey exploring a medium I never had the courage to before, and I think I will try again, this time on shorter stories.
I'd like to thank Arswiss (author of Age of the Gray, please check it out it's one of my favorite comics) here for being supportive all the way and inspiring me to take the first step, and everyone that read, commented or faved this comic, each time I had notifications I was (and am still) very happy. Thank you.

If you didn't notice the news, this is going to be the last page for this year. I'll (hopefully) be back on January, this break is necessary for me to build a new buffer as I am crushed with schoolwork, bad health and computer problems (this one is a 6yr old laptop). Please do feel free to hit me up on the sites I mentionned in the news section if you got any questions !
