Hemispheres

by macronencer
Some marriages are not made in heaven. And it's far, far worse when the two participants are trapped in the same head.

Author's Note: This comic is based on the pervasive myth that left and right brain hemispheres have different 'personalities'. This is almost certainly not true, but it's a bit of fun to imagine it is regardless. For more information, see: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/5-common-myths-about-the-brain/

@Morzone: Generally, yes. But if Rightbrain imagined them as visible, it would be impossible to pretend they were real because they clearly wouldn't be there. Underground tubes are easier to believe in :)

Isn't the point of steampunk to have the brass tubes as visible as possible?

@macronencer: ah ok, that would explain why they're able to look at butterflies.

@Morzone: They're pedestrians :) Maybe you're not thinking British enough ;)

So are they driving a car with left-footed pedals, or is shouting out in alarm to stop an automatic reaction? If the pedals are right footed, the left brain wouldn't need to tell right brain to do the stopping.

Or am I taking it too seriously?

Hey, Bananas are the fruit of champions. Eating one at or before a sporting event will improve your game immensely.

Still no superpowers though.

Darn it, now I'm curious and have to go look up how sunsets work.

And yes, I will enjoy my sunset thank you very much!

@Morzone: Haha! Yes, Right Brain has a rather relaxed view of life. Thanks for continuing to read :)

Right brain, I'm afraid you got lost long, long ago.

Ah yes, nothing like a bit of musical tune to make impossibly confusing number and letter jumbles make sense.

There are definitely some Sci-fi fantasy books based on the idea of planets having a conscience. So who knows? Just another Conspiracy theory for the two sides to question each other over.

@Morzone: That might depend where you live. I'm from England, and I grew up with large, hollow Easter Eggs that are quite shell-like (or skull-like!), and usually contain treats in a bag, or chocolate bars etc. Thanks for reading!

Huh, I would have thought normal eggs would have been more skull-like than chocolate Easter ones. Maybe we're thinking of different Easter eggs.

A Drag race between the Queen and Santa would be quite the spectacle.

@Morzone: I expect Right Brain just heard it somewhere and decided to try it out! Always good to learn new things :)

if I was going to run into a word I needed to look up, I have to admit I was expecting it to come from the left half of the brain rather than the right.

Learning new things every day.

Almost a year
We're coming up to the first anniversary of Hemispheres, and I want to thank those who have read any of them in that time (especially Morzone, my die-hard fan!) I'm not an artist, I'm a writer — but I've had a lot of fun with this format and I'm frankly quite surprised that I managed to get this far without skipping a single week.

I said right from the start that if I made it to a year I would publish these in a book, so I guess it looks as though I'll have to follow through on that! Obviously if I manage to do that then I'll post a link on the main comic note page and in an author comment as well.

Onwards and sideways...

@Morzone: Very true! I'll tell you something else: one-handed is VERY bad if you have something expensive tucked under the other arm, and the brake on the side you're gripping is not working. Believe me, I know... it was the only time I've ever been knocked unconscious :)

One-handed is Still better than "Look ma! No hands!"
