@dracone: I promise I'm familiar with other systems. I primarily played Exalted and Shaowrun in college. I'm using D&D because it's the system the most people are familiar with, not because I think it's the only game out there.

@Kytri: That's cool, but D&D gotten a bit too overexposed at this point. There are other tabletop RPG out there. Pathfinder uses D&D 3.5 as a base.

That said, there are other Tabletop RPGs you could take a look at. Like G.U.R.P.S. and World of Darkness. Both have very systems from D&D, and both also don't have a Level Up and instead have you "spend" experience points to advance your character. But yeah, I used to be a massive D&D fan, but then I noticed how prevalent the Level UP system is in MMORPGs and also started noticing how problematic the whole system is.

Sorry for rambling on you like that, I just like seeing people fall into obvious pitfalls that can easily avoid. There's a now discontinued webcomic called Poultry Arisen that used D&D character sheets for character profiles, in a bit of an amusing way. I think you can still find it online, it just stopped updating ages ago.

@dracone: Yeah, there's one at the beginning of each chapter. The comic is formatted for print and the character sheets go on the inside of the front cover.

@Kytri: Thanks for pointing that out, they're a little hard to see on a cursory glance. Will you be doing character sheets for all your principal cast members?

@dracone: The base scores are in the little jewels.

I find it amusing something akin to a D&D character sheet is used. That said, putting the bonus up without the base attribute scores looks a little sloppy and makes the whole thing feel incomplete
