Ikon

by MissElaney
Ikon is a story about a counterfeiter who turns to the world of art smuggling to pay off the extortion ring that threatens his family.

Aleksandr Navtalov just wants to support his parents with his fledgling printing company, but a financial panic threatens to render his work obsolete in the wake of many post-Soviet reforms. And so, the young man finds a new way to pay off his debts: an art smuggling ring in need of false certificates and a courier to deliver religious artwork to collectors and connoisseurs abroad.

If he can pull it off, he'll make more in a week than he's ever made in a year, but there's a reason it pays so well: the trek is a three day drive through old Soviet worlds in a crumbling and treacherous world of corrupt border guards and armed highwaymen.

Your fellow travelers are drug runners, jewel thieves, and other upstanding members of society who would never dream of stabbing you in the back once they discover what kind of cargo you're carting through the countryside.

Naturally, the young man is stupid enough to do it, but smart enough not to go alone.
