My Magic Grandpa

Suzie is a very adamant straight A middle school student in bizarre but beautiful Northwest Oregon in the spunky year of 1995. Being so focused on her grades, she has no time for friends, and thinks it’s better that way. But when she gets herself caught up in a supernatural situation, her whole world view gets flipped upside down. Before she knows it, she’s pulled in to a life of mystery and adventure on the other side with her strange and eccentric Grandpa Coach, a man wielding a magical golf club who disappeared when she was a toddler.
Why hunt the paranormal when you can befriend them?

Hilda is an absolutely STUNNING show that I discovered on Netflix last year. This show is what made me feel confident that My Magic Grandpa would be well received and loved. All the characters are lovable and amazing, the animation is phenomenal, the stories are inspiring and wholesome… Hilda is almost everything I want My Magic Grandpa to be, so when it won a well deserved Annie award I had to draw a tribute to it!

So here we have Suzie getting to know Twig the deerfox, Hilda’s companion, while Hilda gets to meet Suzie’s mischievous dust bunny!
Went to the hospital a couple weeks which really threw me off but here's last month's crossover art!

Coraline holds a really special place in my heart, the move was made in my home area, in Portland, and I got to tour the studio as a kid while it was under production. They couldn't give us much, just that it was about a girl finding another dimension through her wall. I waited for it excitedly and when the trailer came out it went beyond my expectations.

Laika studios aren't far from me, and I'm always open to the idea of working for them some day, but for now I can enjoy their movies.

As for Suzie's Other parents, her other dad loves gardening and her other mother is some kind of genius scientist! This'll be tough for Suzie to let go!
Last month’s crossover image was delayed due to medical issues but I’m back now and have it finished!

In celebration of the SU finale we recently had, fans have compared Rainbow Quartz 2.0 to a Coach and Suzie fusion, so I thought why not show them meeting up on the Oregon Coast?
Invasion of the costumers!
Mabel and Dipper return to Oregon, but this time get to visit the city of Roseland! [Portland] There they discover even the city has its own weird fauna...

There are people in Roseland who absently wander around in silly costumes who do crazy, weird things that no one can quite explain. Are they possessed? Is it a curse? Whatever it is, once they put on one of these costumes, they become obsessed with wearing it and staying in character! And it looks like Dipper got himself trapped! If Mabel and Suzie are going to help him, they need to get away to make a plan.

It would be easier to spot them if it weren't commonplace for people to run around in costumes who aren't under the influence of this dark(?) magic.

So I have a goal active on my patreon where I will draw crossover fan art between My Magic Grandpa and the various things that served as inspirations for the series. Patrons voted and the result for the first one is Gravity Falls!
Which, honestly I think is perfect considering Gravity Falls really sparked my realization that the place I grew up was a perfect setting for what I needed, and I didn't need to go out of my way to make new worlds but instead rely more on my nostalgia. I grew up near Portland, Oregon, and yes people in weird costumes is normal here, yes we have a Pioneer Day and it's awful and amazing at the same time, also we basically worship salmon.
My Magic Grandpa is aimed towards an older audience, teens and adults mainly, but I hope it can bring that same weird fun that Gravity Falls offered.

Happy birthday! And what a nice introduction~
Ok, but that last panel is just making grandpa look like one of those people they warn yo about as a kd when they talk abot "stranger danger"
That feel when you have yet to meet your maternal grandpa and don't know that he was the one who saved you from possibly beaing dead meat.

Deals with the devil.
Well have you tried giving the devil coffee on Monday before you try to deal with them?

I find that it makes working with my wife on Monday mornings easier, so it might work for the devil.

@Curious Lurker:

It was my history teacher that was the devil incarnate at my school, he had high standards and would assign homework online without telling anyone and then blame them for not looking it up every day to see if we have homework. Heck he even sent the whole class to get late slips because HIS clock didn't match when the bell went off.
I was a smart stressed oddball. But can relate to Lit teachers being pure evil.

Chapter 1 will begin in 2020! I'm taking the next year to write and sketch as much as I can ahead of time to keep this comic on a frequent schedule because it's going to be a doozy!
5 seasons, 11 episodes each, episodes consist of 1-3 chapters.
See you then! And please consider supporting my patreon if you want to see my progress throughout the year! https://www.patreon.com/mymagicgrandpa

In the meantime, I will be updating two other comic projects.
Once Upon a Calamity, a series of twisted fairy tales: http://www.smackjeeves.com/comicprofile.php?id=68814

And Bedeviled Dotty, about an awkward bunny girl who gets help from a fox to woo her college professor.

Our... Hero?
Not the hero you'd expect but probably the hero you'd get the best experience from.

This page was super fun, I wanted to make the frames and colors more chaotic to fit how warped from reality this moment is.
