Sketch-Of-The-Day

by Megami
In an attempt to make myself practice and do more life-drawing studies, I'm starting a sketch a day regime. I'll be focusing mostly on the things that give me problems now: scenery, perspective, mechanical things, guns, cloth and draping, crowds.

I'm making it into a comic mostly to make myself accountable for sticking with it ^_~ I hope the people who find this will enjoy watching me practice and improve.

Angst!
Okay, so it's been a while since I updated. My sketchbook is full, so until I get a new one, you're left with digital whenever I actually find time for it ^^,

So things might be slower. Sorry.

Robot-baby daycare
Cute things happening on Solluna, between two of the robotic 'pet/child' like companions of two of the characters. A Mini-bot named Blackberry (ala Transformers) meets a security hoverbot built by a scientist from the FF7 world.

There is a pathology known as "winged scapula" cause by an imbalance in muscle tone between the 6 muscles that move the scapula.

This is what came to mind for me . . .

The Scapula and Clavical (shoulder blade and collar bone) form what is called the 'shoulder girdle'. It is connected to the ribcage in one place, the very end of the clavicle to the sternum, and is the first joint/structure that allows for arm movement. 6 movement actions take place here.

Aside from that, it's also one of my favorite parts of the human body. Both to move, look at, draw, and massage <3

I admit, I like making Ani's skin shiny >.>

My favorite part of this is actually Zee's braid.

Growth spurt
Over the next nine or ten months, Leirian is going to be growing approximately an inch each month. Then the next two after that will add another 6 inches to his height.

So over the course of the next year on Solluna, he'll go from looking like he does now, at the right, to the image on the left. A gradual change until the last 2 months, when he runs headfirst into puberty. Fun times >.>

And yes, the boots will grow with him. He's a magical boy after all.

A Marriage of Duty
An image from one of the (many many many) Solluna Alternate Universes. This one is set in Arthurian times.

This is the wedding of Nei'ess de Magens, court seer of the High King, and Princess Sierra, unconventional daughter of a northlands king, and a sorceress and inventor.

The wedding was arranged by the High King, at Nei'ess' request to "find him a wife", and Sierra's father, who appealed to the High King to find a husband for his daughter. Sierra has been engaged three times already, but she's too headstrong and too crafty of a magician to be wed to an ordinary man against her will.

It actually works out quite well from the get-go, as she becomes Nei'ess' apprentice more than his wife. They respect each-other, and the two have a shared love of learning and magic that makes it easier for them to become more fond of each-other.

I love clothing from the 1200's ^_^

Oh, and that bundle extending from under her veil is her hair, bound to keep it contained and clean. Sierra has an abundance of long, thick, curly hair. Nei'ess enjoys combing it ^^

Same project as the last page, but the one shows what happens when you stack the effects of two blend shapes at once. This starts to give you an idea of just how powerful blend shapes can be.

Usually blend shapes are used to produce facial animation, but for this project, I wanted to be able to keyframe an action once, and be able to change what the body looks like while it is doing the action, without having to re-key the whole sequence.

Not much drawing this weekend, but I did open Maya again to play with the Chibi model I started months ago. I now have three blend shapes finished for it, which can be applied anywhere from 1 to 100 percent. Theoretically they can be applied at over 100 percent, but that gets unpredictable pretty fast ^^,

Obviously these still need some work. I need to make the woman blend shape's breasts softer and rounder, and the man blend shape's waist less defined. Among other tweaks.

These are all renders of the same base model, after the different blend shapes have been applied.

"As I was laying there, I remembered my sister. We were always ragging on each other, as kids. And I remembered what I use to call her, and suddenly, for the first time, I saw her face, really saw it, and what it did to her to hear me say that. I knew I had to call her and tell her, for the first time in twenty years, actually tell her that I love her. And I when heard her say 'I love you' in return, then I knew everything was going to be okay."

Posterior skull, first four cervical vertebrae, and the suboccipital muscle group.

The muscles exist semetrically on both sides of the midline, stabilize the skull, and have a reaction to eye movement as well. They also feel really good to massage and have massaged ^^

Puppy Pile
This was drawn landscape instead of portrait, so I rotated it to fit the aspect ratio of the other comic pages better.

I think it still works.

One of the guys at school teaches Mixed Martial Arts, Tuesday and Thursday mornings. He said I could watch to learn how to draw fighting. This is one of the locks they were practicing thursday.
