Strahl should be recognizable to many of you; he's not from some obscure 80's cartoon like many of the characters I use. I ended up finding him thanks to reader input, i.e. someone said "It would be really cool if you use character XYZ from so-and-so series/show/game!"

So if you ever have any suggestions, don't hesitate. One disclaimer: I automatically exclude people who existed in real life, such as Miyamoto Musashi etc.

To keep story immersion, the biographies never state "this character came from so-and-so TV series." If you need help finding the source material for a particular character, just PM my Smackjeeves inbox.

@ Don B:

She stars in a 24-episodes anime called Fate Stay Night. You can find it subtitled, or you can get the official English-dubbed DVD version in stores. She's pretty popular in Japan, but not mainstream in the USA.

There is also an anime movie called Unlimited Blade Works. The movie is very condensed, so watch it **only after** you've watched the anime. The movie does answer some questions not addressed in the anime.

Heheh, I purposely don't outright state where the source characters can be found. If you've noticed, I de-emphasize their backstories in the comics; these biographies go along with that. But if you ask, I'll reply.
I love this character! What I want to know is this; is she from an old legend, comic, webcomic, anime...Where can I find more of her stories? I know where to find Flash, Felicity and He-Man but it would help if you added a "where you can find out more" kinda thing as some of us might not have any idea where to find out more about the characters we are interested in. This is a good concept but I'm getting frustrated with the seeming expectation that we are all familiar with the source material. And no, I'm not singling you out. This is something I've experienced before. Other than that, great art, storyline and characters. I'm glad I found this one.

Durham Red is probably one of the more famous characters we're using... although before FIGHT, I'd never heard of her.

Those crazy Brits, making cool characters like Strontium Dog and Judge Dredd... Funny how just researching for cool looking characters just opens you up to a brand new world... :-)

Bhodi was one of those weird-looking guys I had doubts about, because his design was really 80's ugly... I was ready to cross him off the FIGHT list until mlai came up with the holographic body idea... cool! :-)

In the original show it was the bad guys who used this method... coming back week after week, because they never really died.

mlai just asked why didn't the good guys ever do that?

why indeed? o_O

Monev the Gale... I just had to include this character, because his action figure rocked. Like Tex Hex (Hanes), the figure was 50x better than the cartoon rendition. In the cartoon/anime, Monev was just a wrestler-sized man in *purple spandex*. His chainguns were so pathetic, he had to resort to using a bazooka (he carried his bazooka in a *brown bag*... it looked like Hamburglar's bag, without the $ sign). His anime characterization and death were equally pathetic. The action figure, however, transformed him into a monster; no matter what I did, I still couldn't do that figure justice (my skillz aren't strong enough). I knew it'd be a bitch to draw, but I had to. Ed agreed.

Monev was originally meant to appear in F1, but his appearance would be so late I just couldn't wait anymore. So, I put him in F2 instead. His fight with Nuada and Chase was very short originally; Chase wasn't even supposed to fight him. But eventually the fight just ballooned into 2 chapters. Now we're both burnt out drawing him... we've found a replacement for him for the role in F1.

Hanna Barbara usually sucked, but this show did not. Tula was a developed character, and she was "exotic" to boot. Her simple costume absolutely rocked. None of that overused leotards and spandex.

I actually never watched all the episodes of this show. Y'all must think that I'm this huge aficionado/geek of retro shows, but I'm not LOL. I was just a kid who watched cartoons after primary school; the only shows I really watched are He-Man, She-Ra, G.I. Joe, and Real Ghostbusters. I never watched most of these shows that I took characters from. Thank god for shrines, Wikipedia, and Youtube.

Addendum: Ed beat her up real good, but she's not dead... relax.

Did you all think that this guy would just die and go away? Well nope, he's a major character. His death in F2 is only his introduction. Heheheh, isn't it cool having two stories with a mysterious interconnection? I kill off a character in one story, and have him pop up in the other one. I didn't plan on having him look older in F1. It's just Ed's art style. Ed also decided to give him some smexiness (or something) with the unshaven look, but I told Ed not to lose sight of who he really is. We try to stay faithful to major elements of a character.

I've never watched his source show. I took two characters from it because I really liked the character designs, and the characters' diverse backgrounds fit in well for some of the roles I needed in my comics.

Yeah, she's pretty tiny according to her official bio (5'1"). You can be fooled by online fan art or figurines because they tend to depict all women with supermodel proportions.

Hey! she's kinda short compared to everyone else, only 5 feet tall.

Chase is pretty much the reason I created F2. At first I scripted only a side-story chapter for her in F1, but it soon ballooned into an adventure all its own.

Did I ever mention that I'm a big King Arthur nut? I had an entire bookshelf devoted to books on the historical King Arthur and Roman Britain. I didn't used to pay much attention to the legendary King Arthur, but in order to flesh out the character better (for the comic), I read the 900+ pages of Le Morte D'Arthur. Reading it taught me how to write in Middle English as well.

So, here's my hero King Arthur... but packaged in the form of a cute girl! And the story she came from is a masterpiece.

The biography is a liberal mix of Arthurian legend and Roman Britain history, based on my (ahem) extensive knowledge of both.
Readers recognized that this man was from somewhere in the Masters of the Universe line. Some guessed He-man. Some guessed Skeletor. The really knowledgeable readers guessed Faker.

Anyways, He-man had a grey sword. Skeletor had an identical blue sword. The two swords combined to form one sword that neither could hold correctly in their hands. The American packaging didn't talk about this at all, but it didn't take very long for a kid like me to figure out what that meant.

I had taken a villain and put him in a position to be a hero. Now I wanted to take a hero and make him into a pitiless, implacable force of nature. But I didn't want to violate canon. This was what I came up with. If the swords can combine, then why can't their masters?

When I had to choose a girl character, I decided to be silly and to choose a catgirl. There were other catgirls running around, but IMO none fit the bill as well as Felicia. The series that she's from wasn't too famous, either (in the USA).

You'll notice that I have not told you his true identity. I will only reveal a character's true identity after it has been guessed by a reader, here or at another mirror. So far, no reader has ever figured out who Nuada is.

One of the most frequent guesses is that he's Cable (from Marvel comics). He is *not* Cable. Does he look like Cable?

No, I don't know if there are any books on this series. AFAIK, it's a cartoon series.
EDIT: Hahaha, okay, so I was completely wrong.

I *thought* I had a book with him in it, but research says he's not in any books @.@ Dang.

EDIT 2: I swear, reading about the story he's from, it sounds like I have a book about this guy, or at the very least, Stampede.

Are you aware as to whether or not they ever made any books of the series?

First character to kill something (that bleeds) in my comics. And what a kill it was!
