Reidy and Friends' Showcase

A general showcase where pretty much anyone can post anything they want, barring porn. Maybe. Probably. We also try to be civil whenever possible, so don't go out of your way to piss people off. Other than that just sit back, relax, and enjoy the showcase.

Anyways, you should have at least SOME experience spriting before applying to join, should you want to. We don't accept recolors and are very much against sprite thieves.

Accepting Author Applications

We welcome both spriters and artists, but please try to be better than a recolor. We'd also appreciate it if you take and give critique with an open mind. To apply, either use the application system or send a PM to Shard or Z. BE SURE TO INCLUDE AN EXAMPLE OF YOUR WORK SO WE DON'T HAVE TO DIG AROUND FOR IT. That annoys us and generally makes it less likely that we'll let you in. We're lazy. So sue us.

Oooooh! Very nice!
The biggest thing I was requested for was "sword poses" so I went all-out and animated the hell out of them. Next on the agenda is more swordfighting stuff, including blocks and a plunging attack, as well as some dance moves.

The full sheet with and without the placeholder swords can be found right here:

Same deal as the other poses, credit not needed if you just use these for personal sprites and not some kind of commercial project or something.

If you're down for some critique, I like that you're giving things more solid outlines, and the blue cloth reads pretty well, but the gold jewelry gets kind of lost against the pink on the body. I think tinting the darker shades way more towards orange/red would help it pop a lot better.

If you're having trouble with the legs/feet, I'd try using darker shades for the shadows and outline on them, maybe just lift the darker of the two shades you're already using for the eye. For the beak, the general shape looks good but the shading there would also benefit from some darker outlining.

The tail is also a little bit busy, and the pale grey-lavender gets lost against the whites. I'd consider either massively simplifying each individual tail feather and giving them stronger outlines, or instead just not using the heavy black for any of the internal outlines in the tail at all.

Would have been nicer in my opinion if the scaled up sprites didn't have the detailed facial expressions.
November 2nd, 2017 Here's what the outfit looks like. The only thing I immediately notice that's similar to Beerus is the color of the sashes and the necklace-y thing.

...this is Kalrin, he is a tol, decided to sprite him, I'm probably gonna fiddle with the legs and beak because they look a bit awkward the way they are now, THOUGHTS ASIDE FROM HOW MUCH I CLEARLY WANT MYSELF TO SUFFER??

Costume Party #4

Following what I did last year and the year before, we just had a source for the costumes this year! That source was the Important Faces' Hogwarts Houses!

Of course, that warrants explanation, so let's get right into it. I wound up using an online quiz to sort everyone, but for the most part I had a feeling that they'd end up where they'd end up. Let's go down the list.

Gryffindor values bravery, daring, nerve, and chivalry.
Certainly, some results are unexpected, and perhaps none of the Important Faces of Aware exemplify this more than Blair. But I thought about it carefully, and the results really do make sense. Blair is brave and daring - willing to tackle any situation head on and face it without backing down, even if it's intimidating; and he definitely has a lot of nerve in both senses (both audacity and courage/confidence), and he is very respectful of women in his own way. And those are all traits he values as well.
Incidentally: Blair was actually tied with an even amount of Gryffindor/Hufflepuff. But I think the test I used realized how bad he is at finding stuff. ;3

Hufflepuff values hard work, dedication, patience, loyalty, and fair play.
Niv and Damaru come in next, with some Hufflepuff Pride. I feel like talking about Niv would just be gloating somehow, so I'll just tackle Damaru here.
The thing is, he's a little tricky. He's an antagonist and kind of a jerk! But take out the bird and things make more sense. Damaru works hard, is completely dedicated to what he does, and he has to be patient to deal with the bird all the time. He's fiercely loyal and if it weren't for Silverado, he'd be a lot more willing to play fair and not cheat. Damaru embodies most of the Hufflepuff traits; and those he doesn't are the ones he wishes he did.

Ravenclaw values intelligence, knowledge, and wit.
Ah, Mr. Losroo. All alone in Ravenclaw. Nobody uses their brains around here, huh? Well, anyway. Mr. Losroo was completely predictable. He's smart, he loves learning new things, he has a wealth of knowledge, and as he's demonstrated in the past he's got a bit of a wit on him. The man could only be more Ravenclaw if he were a bird of some sort! He's got other traits from other houses, sure - but Ravenclaw is not only what he most embodies, it's also what he most values.

Slytherin house values ambition, cunning, and resourcefulness.
And here we go, the most god damn predictable results!
...wait, the protagonist is on there? Ahahahahahaha WHOOPS!
In all seriousness, Két and her counterpart are very much Slytherins. I knew this even before I took the quiz. Because Két is not a traditional hero. She's very ambitious- although her RP counterpart perhaps displays it more- in that she often tackles projects not because she thinks it'll be a nice learning experience, but because she knows it'll be somehow 'worth it'. 'Cunning' isn't a bad trait to have, either. Being crafty and able to talk your way out of things, using your opponent to your advantage, thinking up new plots and plans as they're needed... that's not a villainous trait, that's a Guile Hero! And resourcefulness. Of course they're resourceful! They're awares! They're literally using and abusing the world around them for their own needs. Everyone seems to view Slytherin as a sort of evil house, but no- Slytherins just follow their own moral code. And while that's often times not a good thing, it can just as often be the right mix for someone willing to screw the rules to do what's right.

Then there's the bird. Silverado is a Slytherin, to absolutely no one's surprise. He's constantly manipulating the people around him with his cunning, he's resourceful as heck considering his current situation, and his ambition is off the charts. But that's not to say it's because he's evil. No, even when he's on your side he embodies those traits. He's able to use his cunning to shift a battle to his favor, use his resourcefulness to take advantage of what he's got to get what he wants, and his ambition means he won't stop until he gets it. Plus, he even has traits from the other houses- but Slytherin is the best fit for him.

Silvena is about the same as the bird. No surprise here. She's got a huge ambition, works well with what she's got, and carefully uses her cunning, when she's able, to get what she wants. But incidentally, and interestingly enough- she's also smart like a Ravenclaw, dedicated like a Hufflepuff, and has all the nerve of a Gryffindor. Just because she's more Slytherin than the others, doesn't mean she can't have traits from other houses. In fact, if she weren't in Slytherin, I'd have put her in Hufflepuff- hard working, dedicated, and very, very patient.

Aware can be read here.
@Shard: I like how it came out. Though, I have to agree with the others. The raindrops are rather big and also, when coming into contact with the umbrella and hand, they seem to not 'repel' off.

Another thing I noticed though... and it may be just me on this... If it were a rainy day, should you have the ground look like it was partially reflecting the character. Like if they walk over a puddle of water?

Other then than, I love the effects and how this came out? Did you try it with a brush on photoshop or something? Because I was thinking of practicing effects again to get back into the groove of coming up with art
Honestly given the chaos that is Niv's comics, it genuinely wouldn't surprise me if it WAS a hurricane.

Although tbh if it were a hurricane i'd expect it to be even MORE horizontal than it currently is.
@TheJGamer:!!I play on xbox one
@SonicFan2002: sadly no

i have a sh!tty laptop and not $59.99 to get it sadly

JGamer do you play? You should add me
Does this place do requests?I need a sprite sheet for auther comics...
Looks more like snow than rain, to be honest. Mostly what Touhou said, but also the droplets are enormous.
Rain generally goes in a straight line when it rains. Either that, or its a hurricane out there.
Looks good! However, I think the raindrops should "repel" from the umbrella on the left side. It looks as if it's passing through the top of the umbrella.
<s>When was the last time I made one of these things?</s>

I realized it's been like, 5000 years since I last did rain effects, and wanted to see if I was still capable of doing them. Unfortunately I did so without access to my usual resources, so things wound up looking a bit... wonky. Still, I do kinda like how this came out.
