Suggestions & Feedback Posting Guidelines
The purpose of this board is to allow community members to suggest new features or changes to be added to Smack Jeeves. Even if you aren't sure of a specific solution, but you recognize the need for an improvement, point it out!

Before Posting
Please browse/search the forum to make sure your suggestion hasn't already been made by someone else. If you find an idea similar to yours, post your contributing thoughts to that thread. Don't start a new thread unless your idea is significantly different from existing suggestions.

Rules

    1) Use a descriptive title when making a suggestion or pointing out the need for improvement.

    2) Describe the problem / solution in detail. First, explain why there is a problem or a need for a new feature to begin with. Then, describe your proposed solution (if you have one) clearly and effectively.

    3) Respect others' ideas. If you disagree with someone else's ideas or suggestions, respectfully and factually state why. While debate over different solutions is fine, insults or personal attacks will not be tolerated.

Sticky System
Suggestions that have been approved and chosen for implementation by the development team will be stickied. When development begins on an idea, that topic will be moved to the New Features & Changes in Progress board.

Extra/Fillers seperate Page

Postby ColeDX » May 23rd, 2012, 12:56 am

Just an opinion, think it might help a little :)

It gets annoying when you start reading a WebComic but as you start reading the first pages, they're pretty much a long list of Extras and Fillers lol

It'd be kind of easier just to read from the actual first page of the WebComic

So maybe a page made for Extras and Fillers?

I know you can do this with Custom Pages, but it's just too hard for beginners to use :/ I'm not a beginner though, kind of in the middle lol

I don't think this will really help anyone since there is already REALLY simple HTML to use.

For clickable links:
Code: Select all
<a href = "the image hosted"> name of what is linked</a>

For clickable images:
Code: Select all
<a href = "the image hosted"><img src="the THUMBNAIL of the image hosted"></a>

*Just so you know the THUMBNAIL of the image hosted will have to be whatever image you want to be the preview. (aka a separate 100x100 image) [image does not have to be 100x100 but something compact like that is good]

I know. I just think it'll be easier for people that don't know how to use HTML :/

If they can't be arsed to find the HTML they are welcome to create a sub comic (create another comic on SJ) just to host those fillers/extras, as that is essentially what you are asking aren't you?

Knowing HTML was pretty much a requirement to make a webcomic until sites like SJ came along. Now, you only need to know HTML to make extra pages, which are hardly required content. Moreover, you only need to know the simplest HTML to do this. The hardest part of making clickable image links is going into a graphics editor to make the thumbnail image and uploading it somewhere.

In short, I don't think this is too hard for beginners. I think it's too hard for people who want to make their comic site better with no effort whatsoever. I have no words of support for such people or such redundant features.

But I'll admit, making thumbnails is annoying and it's the #1 reason why I just delete my fillers instead of trying to post them for other people to see. Fortunately, only maybe 1% of my readers care.

It's not hard really for me, it's just an opinion for beginners and to save a little time moving the Extras and Fillers, just an opinion :?

One could also host those images on a deviantart account and link to that.

Or to a photobucket/similar account and link to those images.

I'm not sure I understand what this topic is for. The option to make extra pages is there for anyone who wants to take a very small amount of effort to make one. This is seriously the easiest site I've seen in terms of creating extra content pages. A person could literally make a page that had just hyperlinks to photobucket images and I'm pretty sure that would take 45 minutes to an hour maximum if the person had to go find each image or something.

People who need help making custom pages usually come around asking. You don't need help making custom pages, but are asking about it on behalf of those who might be, is that correct?

I guess I just don't feel it's that daunting of a task, and there are so many resources (including coming to ask for help on this forum) that someone who really wanted to make the minimum effort could very easily do so.

Again, just a small suggestion, nothing more :( And besides, it's not like I'm asking this to be like a huge part of SmackJeeves or anything, gawd. I'm not even asking this to actaully happen. Just a small suggestion I decided to freely throw out there, nothing more. Again I know it's pretty simple, just a suggestions I decided to just throw out there.

Actually, the feature you're suggesting isn't all that easy to implement, which is why I don't think it's worth the trouble.

I think you're perceiving my response to be much angrier/negative than it is. I was simply giving some reasons why that suggestion wouldn't really be fitting. When people post in these forums, other posters assume the person is seeking a response and/or help, so I gave you some. I was mistaken as it's clear you didn't want any feedback.

omg, sorry, didn't actaully mean that to you. I was actaully trying to quote someone else's words, not yours. Sorry ^^' Didn't meant your quote, it was understandable, meant to quote someone else's. Chose the wrong post, sorry if you took it the wrong way :?

No worries, man.

Sorry if any of this seems discouraging. There's a lot of suggestiosn that come through this section of the form that don't get implemented for one reason or another, whether because they'd be too difficult/complex, have too many variables, or already have a suitable alternative. By all means continue to share suggestions with us, just know that people aren't disagreeing with you on a personal level, just a practical one.
