Without lines, you have to rely on contrast and form to sell the shapes. Push the values more. As it is, the image is difficult to read because it's so flat. If you want to see it in an obvious way, temporarily convert to grayscale/desaturate, and you'll see that your values are all in a very narrow range.
Busy, busy.

Perhaps work in greyscale first and then just add color? 8)?

Aaaah nooo I forgot to upload stuff

Uuuuh okay so

Image

This is a remake of an old drawing http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2012/222/c/7/draw_this_again_meme_by_argandia-d5an68s.png

Started the 100 theme challenge today with "Introduction" as the first image

Image

There's parts of it I like and other parts I hate aaaah. I used the grayscale thing you suggested and I hope it worked well.

Aaaand the finished version of my WIP

Image

I edited the values a lot before it became almost too hard to do more without starting over. There's a "completely finished" version that was edited a bit more, but that's reserved for the comic (whenever it launches).

Aaand that's it. Besides that I've been busy since my girlfriend came over for a month. :D

Check armor guy's right arm the underlying structure looks funky. (Check the alignment of the bones and flesh of the forearm) The back characters are still a bit "undefined" looking, if you want to see a good and IMO, nice dynamic way of coloring, I recommend looking at the Disgaea covers (and other "painted" works by that artist) you might get some ideas!

I feel like the arms and hands are way too small for the style you're going for. The right hand also feels like the thumb should be visible or that the fingers should be curled at a slightly different angle (it looks more like a paw at this time). Her right goggle lens is bigger than the right one and there is a weird illusion going on that looks like the top (our) left of her skull is missing because of how the lens are positioned.

Thanks! Yeah I noticed the hands were small, however I looked at a live person flexing and I didn't see the thumb at all from the position they were in, but the fingers were probably curled differently. Fun fact: Finger joints confuse the hell out of me and I can never figure them out.

And the goggles confused me a lot. Do you mind maybe drawing over them to show me how to fix the "skull illusion"? I've redone them so much that I don't think I could figure it out anytime soon.

The illusion comes from how the goggles cover up JUST ENOUGH that it looks like the skull isn't there. You can't really "fix it" except for abusing a little bit that since it's a 2D medium you can "alter" things to look a bit better.

(Major example, Mickey's ears, in 2D you don't think about how they're positioned but they make NO SENSE in 3D)

WIP of a Charr painting I'm working on, in celebration of GW2 coming out in 7 days! (Well, for those with the 3-day headstart. )

Right now it's still in Grayscale mode since it's a very early WIP. Using this as an opportunity to learn digital painting a bit more. Still hard to understand for me, but fortunately in winter the studio I study at is offering a digital painting class and I'll be able to learn it better there.

I do have some sketches to dump, but man do I hate scanning stuff.

I am waiting for GW2 as well… it’s going to be awesome!! Did you play GW1?
As for the painting:
I think it looks a bit stiff, because you have the face in profile and the body from the front. Maybe you can turn the upper body a little bit to where the charr is looking?
I like the horns and the face a lot, though. But I think you could go a bit darker in some areas. As it is now, its feels a bit flat.

In the GW2 design of the Charr they don't stand that much upright, I think. They are bend forward a little. Your Charr is more like the ones in the original game.
GW1 <-> GW2
I'd like to see the final picture. :)

Thanks! I've decided against the pose and am now working on a different piece. After adding more details to the Charr in the WIP I became very unhappy with it and ended up scrapping it. I think I need to find my own painting style cause this one isn't working for me. :D

Edit: Oh, also, no I didn't play GW1. My brother would pretty much block off any possibility of playing mmorpgs when I was younger since he got addicted to WoW. It wasn't until earlier this year that I found out about it, unfortunately. It was kinda too late to play it for me, seeing how GW2 was already in beta and it felt like a waste of money to buy it now. But I'm really looking forward to GW2. The beta events were very fun, and I can't wait to hop onto my Charr warrior again!

auuuugh you guyyyysssss

Whenever I get to the "legs" part of a person my mind blanks and makes the anatomy turn into a steaming pile of poop.
Spoiler! :

This is actually one of my better attempts at putting legs on ANYTHING, but still.

Does anyone have a very comprehensive tutorial about leg muscles, how they bend, etc? My main problem is after the waist, the whole body gets thrown off balance because I'm doodoo at drawing legs ffff. Anatomy books aren't helping at the moment. Only making me frustrated. /sob

I think the reason you have trouble with the waist/leg connection is because you're drawing the torso too short - that guy is missing his pelvic area.

This tutorial has a nice explanation of legs and the pelvis, I hope it helps: http://foervraengd.deviantart.com/art/U ... -253120702

Oh man, you're right! And I thought I was watching out for the pelvis more too. I'll definitely practice that area then, since it's what destroys every attempt at drawing dynamic poses ever.

Edit: Poop. I'm blanking out again, cause a Charr's anatomy is different than a human's when it's the legs.
Man do I not learn well.

Does this make more sense? I had to look at my own body, but my womanly curves hinder any sort of male reference I may want to use.

Man, I can't wait for that anatomy class to begin. Too bad it's only 2 months.

Edit: Oh crap forgot to resize hold on

Edit: Kay done.
