I love how you simplified the face but add a lot of detail on the overall body. Normally most people, the face is the most important aspect, but you do such a good job with it, It still fits even though you wouldn't think it would. I could easily tell your style from a lot of peoples in a crowd *w*

I'm glad you like it! Although, actually, in my case, it's not so much a matter of simplifying the face as never learning how to draw it complicated XD

Anyway, here's some more stuff:

Image Image Image Image Image Image

For someone who "doesn't know how to draw faces", you sure knows how to draw individualism >:I
If I knew those characters names I would probably be able to tell you who is who. That's something that you don't see everyday, even with some of the most amazing artists.
Thats one reason I really enjoy your style, its fresh and your people look like people, fancy face details or not.

Oh, I wasn't saying that I don't know how to draw faces. That would be kind of disingenuous on my part. But I'm not good at putting a whole lot of detail into 'em so I made simplicity my style by default. I'm really glad you like it!

trenton_dawn crazy sketchbook blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarr

Postby trenton_dawn » October 19th, 2010, 3:07 am

I use Facebook photo albums as a sketchdump from time to time, and tonight it seems they have this new facial-recognition software running to suggest you to tag people. And some of my drawings got flagged by this software, ha ha! So computers think I'm a good artist. Well, that's my anecdote for today. Got some drawings here. I'm practicing a bunch of new things this time around. What do you guys think?

Edit: Decided to make a new avvy, too.

The new K-ON album makes for great sketching music.

I use a calligraphy fountain pen, actually. My pencil drawings are all so light that they don't scan well, so I primarily use pens now.

Ha ha, no, but I see the resemblance, now that you mention it.

One of your OCs then? He looks really cool. Is that the whole picture or did you crop it?
I like the brush strokes too. There is a good sense of movement. I can never depict wind well and it came out nicely in that picture.

That's the whole picture. I think it came out pretty well *preens*

When it comes to wind, I find that huge strokes of a low-opacity airbrush combined with thin, long strokes of a normal brush work pretty well. Smudging the airbrush strokes sparingly can sometimes help, too. The key is to make really big gestures with your lines, I think.

That one is the only one annoyng me. The girl with her face tilted upward. Is that the same one holding the sword? Cause if so, her nose a smidge big compared to how you normally draw her. I would make it about half the size, even though I think you were going for perspective, it should still relatively be the same size. Just should be able to see the nostrils. The shape and detail on it in itself is perfect though. It's just the size bugging me.

And also

This is badass.

Which one? The one in the middle? That's actually supposed to be a different character :o

No problem at all! The nose is abnormally big, after all. It also helps me know when character's faces are just a bit too similar.
