If you can't figure out either of those things, why are you even making a comics? That's not a dig at you--that's a plea for you to sit back and actually contemplate your motives for wanting to pursue a project that is going to take a butt load of work if you want it done right.

I kinda agree with Ran; if you REALLY want to make a comic, you gotta figure things out on your own. Do some research, look at what other comic artists on here do.
But, everyone starts off as a beginner, and it's okay to ask questions sometimes; perhaps a more detailed question would suffice instead of asking so vague?

More like: How should I set up my storyboard? or How do I use the screentone patterns?

It's a pretty vague plea you got there, but a buddy o' mine is making lessons to help with things such as this right over in the tutorials section, it may help you out. viewtopic.php?f=21&t=1163

Not to self-promote, but you might want to check out some of the articles on the Sinister Squid site.

I have to agree, though, if you don't have an idea for a story or characters, you might want to reconsider doing a comic on your own. Maybe work with someone else on a collaborative effort?

Hey. You.

Go back to your room and finish thinking of an idea for a comic.

Don't let me see your face again until you have one.

If you come out before you have thought of anything, you will be paddled. And you know I like paddling.

No characters or background, but you want to make a comic?...You no talky my talk.

Everyone has a different way they initially think of a story, but personally, I love writing because I love writing for characters. So more times than not I think up a character or characters, then as I develop them in my brain, a story shows up around them. That's not always the case though. Sometimes I'll say "I want to do this genre and go from there...and by "go from there" I mean "think up a character fitting that genre," so actually, yeah, I always do the same thing.

If you have a horribly rough idea like a setting or a genre, all I can tell you is...good luck developing that. If you have absolutely nothing and just want to draw comics, then I'd maybe look into getting a writer.

Come on, Vinuu. A light jest is fine, but full out mockery just seems mean.
I'm starting a tumblr. I hear that's what the cool kids do. I would not mind if you click on it, but be gentle.
