I would probably tell them, just so that they can guess when I'm no longer here. Depends how much of the story I've covered, it's no where close, I would stop. If it's close to being finished, I'll try to do a quick cover up if it's possible. If it's somewhat in the middle, I'll just stop... I'd rather enjoy my remaining time with other people rather than completing a webcomic...

If I had a webcomic, I would tell the readers the truth, and try to find someone who would carry on the comic for me after I died, making sure to leave them details about where the comic was heading, what I had planned, and other such things. That way the comic would be able to continue after I died, still following the founding concepts behind it.

If I had six months left to live, and we're in some hypothetical situation where I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that I would die, I'd quit my day job and find some way to finish Evil Plan. I could easily make it six months before my money dried up. EP's plot is set, and I have drafts for most of the remaining chapters. My pencil roughs are seriously terrible, so I don't think I could do sketches. Maybe I'd have some friends help me record voices, and add images on Youtube for a kind of radio show type of thing? I've made motion comics before, so as long as I could work through the deadly hypothetical illness, I think I could manage it.

Sire would have whatever chapter I was working on clumsily changed to end the series, probably answering no questions, and my fiancee would ignore it and do something strange with it after I was too dead to mind. Sire's meant to be episodic and meandery; a summary would just be a chore to read.

Nice question! I would quit uni just to finish my comic. That way at least I would have finished at least one of the ten things I wanted to do before I die. And if I couldn't finish it in time, I would tell my readers and post up a quick note about how it ends and that I love them for all the support they have given me over the years. I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to tell them I'm actually dying though, that would be upsetting.

Rule number 1 of infinite comics: Never start one if you're not sure it can't make itself.

Most likely give authorship of my comics to another artist here on Smackjeeves that I like and trust :)

Ya know, to carry on the legacy.

You mean you would trespass your hard work to somebody else? Who would want it? If there's something people hate is someone else's hard work :D

Well in the scenario that I had a comic up online (everythings WIP right now so if I found out I was dying tomorrow, I just wouldn't post it online) I think Iv'e got it coverd.
All of my currnet stories are very short one shot stories bar one, the one shots I'd just finish. With the longer one there are several key points within the story where I could end it starting from chapter 5 (Since we're talking 20 chapters plus for this one) I didn't really mean to do this, I guess I just subconciously thought I wouldn't make the full story and gave myself failsafe checkpoints XD and now that I think of it the last chapter can be moved to happen earlier on due to the nature of it...
As to wheter I'd tell my fans I was dying probably not, I'd just say I was leaving and wouldn't be coming back to the comic or Smackjeeves.
Unless my comic was extremly popular, then I'd attempt to sell the orginal copies of the comic to raise money for a charity realated to whichever illness I had, since I'm not going to need them anymore.

A lot of people say they'd give their work to another artist to continue? I find that strange. Wouldn't most artists have plenty of their own work they want to do and their own name to make, rather than working on some dead fella's stuff? If it's any artist worth their salt, that is...

Also, and this is purely just me personally. I really don't like when other people take over a deceased persons world and story. Like when some writers continued the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galazy... Or, what I really dread, some berk coming along and deciding to write more Discworld once Pratchett's gone. It just feels wrong to me. Like wearing another persons skin. That's THEIR world, THEIR mind, and its not for someone else to continue and call it canon. It should be left be.

Perhaps it's just me who feels like that and I'm too precious about these things. But I certainly know that once I'm gone, at most I'd have loved to inspired people to do their own works. But not to meddle with what was mine, no matter what state it was in.

Well I've finished the script for mine already, I'm just working on drawing it. If I were to find out I were dying though and I was halfway through the story I'd either a) look for an artist who could finish the pages or help me with them or b) post the script online with my little thumbnails. It's a possibility with my story itself that once the first storyline is done another one can carry on so there's the option of passing it on to another person to write the next plot arc. They'd just be able to build on the world and characters I'd create and possibly just use the minor characters in works of their own. Some people really enjoy the writing but struggle with creating the characters so they might enjoy that. I'd more than likely tell any fans I had, just so they'd know why the comic was possibly changing into new ownership. It would have to be someone I trust and respect though.

I'd be really sad if I died without seeing it finished. I've been plagued with not finishing projects for as long as I can remember and it's only this year that I'm finally starting to finish things. That'd be why I'd try to get as many pages drawn and up to post before I passed on. I'd also up the update time if I had all the pages done, possibly to one page a day or even just post entire chapters at once.

H0ly: I know where you're coming from with Discworld. No one can hope to replicate Prachett's comedy and suspense in his writing and I sincerely hope that no one tries. He's a big influence on me and my writing and the thought of someone else trying to write in his world scares and worries me.

THIS, oh god, this. It was Eoin Colfer who wrote the last Hitchhikers book and the thing is, he's not a bad writer. I own and like some of his books. But he IS NOT Douglas Adams and that book was just, URGH, *rant rant rant*

I don't think anyone will do that to Terry Pratchett though. I sincerely hope not, anyway...

Anything running that I hadn't finished I would just work my ass off on getting at least a clear detailed plan done before I was buggered. Though I'm answering from a different background since I'm more talking films/games than comicwise.

But for concepts I'd come up with and haven't started or seriously developed, I just have those written in a book. And if I died I'd really like if someone found and just made those. Wouldn't matter to me if they put their own spin on it, as long as the element that interested me could stay in it.

I do have an example of this. I had an idea for a strategy game where you're a deposed memeber of royalty there was a large focus on politics and diplomacy, where you'd need to understand relationships between different groups when attempting to get people to assist you at different points.
I then discovered that a game on a similar basis was made (Crusader Kings II, for anyone curious) though it had you have an actual army. One thing it did far better than I could have (apart from actually make a vast strategy game) is that it's all tied into real life history, and it's highly accurate.
When I found out this existed I was much happier, knowing an interesting concept I'd thought of was made. Because generally the reason I'm making something is that I want it to exist, even if someone else does it I'm glad it got a chance to be out there.
