Request for Moderators

Hey Guys,

We are so fortunate to have such a great community here, and we've been equally fortunate in having amazing moderators to deal with the occasional riff-raff and generally keep things in order. In the past few years, the moderators have done an exceptional job of taking on the role without letting the power get to their heads, and they've managed to remain active, integrated members of the community without alienating themselves as "the moderators". I think that's a wonderful thing, and I hope that's something that is able to continue in the future.

But the role of a moderator at Smack Jeeves is not a permanent one. Good moderators retire. And now, it is once again time to bring on new moderators.

The format that has worked well for us in the past, and the one that we'll be using this time around, is to submit an open request for new moderator applicants, and then have the existing moderators discuss who they think would best fit the role before ultimately choosing the new moderators. And even if you're not applying for the position yourself, feel free to support those who you think would do well.

We're looking for 2-3 new moderators who are:

• Seriously interested in taking on the position
• Friendly, contributing members of the community with their finger on the pulse of what's going on
• Level-headed, considerate and respectful when judging a situation
• Good at handling confrontation, when necessary, both directly and respectfully

If you're interested, please share why you'd like to be a moderator and why you think you'd be good for the position.

Usually, but some people are just faster learners, or have more experience than others. Even some people who have been around the forums for a while would not do well in some of the situations they might be presented in. So, honestly, there are a lot of things that go into it.

Ehh, if it comes down to it and no one else wants to fill the role I guess I will, but I'm still not super hot on the idea. I'm only down if I'm really needed.
I'm active enough to police at least Gen. Discussion and stuff, but there are a lot of sections of the forum I never visit.

It's just a side thought, but I have been active on the forums for quite some time and post fairly frequently. I'm familiar with a lot of the members,and try to handle tense situations in a civil way... That said I am aware that I tend to give non serious responses in threads that otherwise do not merit responses of that type, and have I also go off topic from time to time. So If I'm not considered I understand why...

On an unrelated note I was a Correctional Officer for over a year... Dealing with convicts... puttin' the hammer down.

I'm around here often and enjoy interacting with the community, and would love to help out. I haven't been around here all that long, but long enough to understand the general posting "essence" of the place, and I like to help people get along and solve whatever technical issues I have knowledge about.

But like Sonic-ock I am also silly and a jackass sometimes, and understand if that makes me a person that the site wouldn't really want in a moderator position. (I think with regard to "important" issues though I'm good at keeping my grown-up hat on)

To add onto Admin's requirements, as far as "level-headed," we would like someone who can step back and view a situation without bias, regardless of the individuals in the situation, regardless of your personal beliefs, regardless of "your style of supervision."

I reckon I could give it a stab. I'm on pretty regular, pretty familiar with how the forums work, and, when diplomacy don't work, I know when a line needs to be drawn in the sand. Like MitchellBravo and Sonic-Ock said about themselves, I ain't perfect, but I'd be up for it.

Plus, being military couldn't hurt, either.

Added notes being, I have modded forums before. Issue is, they were not on the same scale as here.

I've known Sonic-ock for a while, and although he's friendly with everyone on the forums I think he would still deal with troublesome users in a way that resolves the issue without acting condescending or rude. Being the active member that he is, I personally think he would be a good choice.

I really wish I was around more. I seriously want to run a smear campaign right now against everyone else like I did last time we held moderator elections.

Is it okay for me to pretend run for Moderator so that I can have fun and run a campaign? I can't actually preform the tasks of Moderator, but I REALLY want to campaign...
