J-Music

what do you think of J-Pop or J-Rock? ^^ do you think it measures up at all to other takes on pop/rock from other countries?

personal opinion: like most genres, there are good bands and bad ones, but i perfer j-rock to pop....usually the pop sounds like the us's 1980's bubblegum pop or aqua....kind of gets on the nerves a bit. :D j-rock itself is alright, but i think gackt/nightmare/hyde may be a tad bit overrated (i think i may have pissed off a fangirl somewhere, and she doesn't even know me or why XD ).

and the soundtracks! i personally love japanese soundtracks to movies and games (by these types i mean music composed for either and wouldn't fall under "j-pop" or "j-rock").

From the songs and artists I've heard, it's about the same quality as pop or rock from any country.

Even if that were true, then wouldn't the logical course of action be to start a new thread about your topic of choice?

To contribute here is a really cool mashup to a J Rock video:

Wow... Y'know I have some links that might be of interest to you.
Compare this...
With this.
Now please, stop trying to hijack.
If you must discuss non-Japanese music, try the "What are you listening to?" thread. Consider it the "General" thread for music.

*EDIT*
Eh, didn't notice the second page. Guess my post was kinda irrelevant. XD

The latter is clearly more important--is that what you're trying to get at? ;P

HeyMrWeatherby wrote:Pillows are pretty much a Japanese Beatles.

The Beatles is often regarded as one of the best bands ever.

Therefor: The Pillows is the best J Rock band ever.

Sorry, but that logic doesn't exactly hold up. First of all, I take issue with your premise. I've never heard anyone call them that before. Second, not everyone thinks the Beatles were the best band. At most, assuming your premise was true, you could possibly say that Pillows is one of the best J-rock bands, ever.

Just trying to help people distinguish the two, which seems to be a fairly hard task for some. XD

Also, does Hyadain count? Although he mainly does Video Game stuff, I just find his work beyond amazing. :3

that IS beautiful...well, the thread is j-music, so i suppose soundtracks should count. personally, i prefer japanese composers...especially in games series that have tried japanese then american/european. the japanese is usually better. ^_^
