Woah a locked topic??

Postby Sunbear » March 28th, 2013, 4:44 pm

Seems that stating a few observations and opinions got more than a few people riled up to the point where they had to lock my topic..
I mean sorry for stating the obvious, but jeez. Never thought people, especially the pokemon fancomic people would get so upset. Bahaha.

I'm sorry I didn't mean to upset anyone.

And I'm not bitter at all I just know my comic will never have 4000 smackjeeves fans like pokemon comics will ? It's just a fact.
And I was just stating it. c w c

I'm happy that there were a few friendly folk in there.
Why can't weeee be friends? ; w;

The topic also could have gotten locked because the subject strayed too far from the main point or became a retread of previous threads without adding anything new to the conversation. In particular, the whole "Yaoi, sprites, etc. are popular but my comic isn't," do both because they crop up so much that most of the longtime users don't take them seriously.

The thread was locked because it brought nothing new to the conversation which has been had on this site a million times before, and people who've heard this conversation so many times before can't take it seriously. You don't need to state the obvious, no one is denying it, it's obvious.

I'm not a pokemon fancomic person, and I'm the one who locked the thread soooo :P

Basically what Ock and roby said. I know you're new, but this is one of those conversations we've had here a lot in the past. It's fine to make rants and stuff, obviously, but if it's somethign with limited relevance to discussion to be had, you might prefer to post it in the Thoughts Off The Top of Your Head thread or the Let's Vent thread. Posting in those threads is more likely to get you "me toos" and "yeah I hate that" than posting a thread all by itself, because when you start a thread just to talk about fans, people assume it's because you're trying to plug your comic somehow (even if it's not true).

Er eh, I'd hate to double-lock, but should I close this thread now as well?

Question, Mitchell: When you lock a thread, do you use a padlock or a combination lock?

Since Mitchell is presently offline, I hope it's alright if I answer: We use fingerprint locks.

Ooh, high tech locks! Do they come with retina scanners?

And yes, you are welcome to answer.

It's nothing personal and I don't think anyone was actually angry, but the same topic is often retread, almost literally on a monthly basis, typically in the form of asking for how to get fans or "why do so many people like X instead of Y?" and other various questions like "why is Z so popular?" (this is sometimes posted in the art & techniques thread as well).

It might sound rude but I actually recommend lurking a little before making any new threads, you might get a better feel of what the community is like and how in some ways it's very different from the comic-only fans. 8O

With that confidence and mindset, it's for sure never gonna happen, think positively friend, there's also very little hate on the sj forums and i doubt any of it is directed towards you currently (:

eishiya is correct! For extremely naughty topics, we also use toeprint locks. Not only are they unique, they're so blobby and cute!

As everyone else has said, it had nothing to do with a conflict of opinion. We like opinions, that's what these forums are for. It's just that you came off as bitter about the whole "fancomic comics have more fans than I do, I'll never get anywhere with an original comic." Yes, fancomics tend to get a lot of fans, especially when based around something that already has a giant fanbase (like the pokemans), however there are plenty of comics on this site with 1000+ fans that have original concepts, so there is obviously interest for that as well. Stating that your comic will never be as popular as a fancomic is already setting yourself up to never get that close, why don't you just believe that you can reach a goal like that? Some things are more popular than others, that's just the way these things go.

That and the pokemon based comic with the highest number of fans on this site is Mokepon, and well, that's has a pretty awesome take on Pokemon different from most other pokemon fancomics. It's like an original comic that happens to have pokemon in it.
Any SJ related questions? Feel free to look around, and if you can't find an answer, make a topic here and we'll get to you as fast as we can! :D

Ohhh yes I see. I am really new to the smackjeeves forums. In other forums the GD is literally like... talk about whatever you want and nobody really cares unless it's obscene or such.

Forgive me. I guess I'll just stalk around the forums a bit to get a feel for it.
