Can it actually be enforced without passing a law through Congress? Tons of countries signed the Kyoto Protocol for example, but very few of them actually met any of the goals. And I always see people freak out about agreements made in the UN, but again, it isn't like the UN can enforce any of them.

I'm pissed. The Internet is the place where any person can do pretty much anything. If you American fucks are going to censor it, just make it THE GREATER FIREWALL OF AMERICA. Because I don't want my Internet censored and Google murdered and torrents tracked. Why can't you guys just get a normal politician that's on NEITHER side and EVERY PERSON VOTES FOR THEM.

Unfortunately, there isn;t a whole lot "us American fucks" can do about it. We were the ones who got the ball rolling for a worldwide network of computers in the 90's and a good majority of the major internet players are headquartered here. If America gets censored, everybody's getting censored.

However....if we got a lot of international support against the bill...perhaps that could help us who are against the bill fight it here at home... (hint hint....)

Yeah Mundius, the great swathes of the American populace aren't sitting at home cheering about this internet jackassery. It's fairly universally despised; the people who are in favor of it tend to be the ones who still think of the internet as some new-fangled, passing fad that "the kids" are into.

That's the problem with having 7 billion people, I guess. We keep the idiots alive that hamper progress... and somehow, they're the ones that rule us! This isn't a fad, we had it for nearly 30 years.

But, yeah, I actually signed bills against SOPA and ACTA. I'm with you on the international support part, even if anyone other than America would get affected.

EDIT: Okay, I'm sorry. I'm still pissed that it's mostly coming from America, but read my first line.

War in Libya

That didn't even get presented to congress until after it was started! The president said the UN gave him the authority to bomb the crap out of Libya and Panetta said they don't need congress' approval.

Congress rejected the initiative to tax CO2 as pollution and the president told the EPA to do it anyway. Loads of things are enforced without passing a law through Congress. It's unconstitutional, but it's done all the time.

Same here, and I don't like to be the bearer of bad news. When I saw the headline for that article on Fark ( [scary] "If signed, Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) will be like SOPA on steroids" ) and clicked the link, I knew I had to post it here right away.

How much do any of you want to bet that as soon as it gets passed, there will be a massive rise in the number of sites moving away from America?

I hope all hosting sites move away from America if this gets passed.

Move to Canada, we have free cooling in Nunavut! Crack open a window and watch as we fall down to -20!
