So i'm confused...I was told two of my comics were up for nomination in the awards.I replied to the emails like I was told...and this is the third final week of voting...but I never saw any of my comics as an option? Did I do something wrong? :?:

In order to the system to work, we had to narrow down categories to fifteen comics per genre. Some were.under that, others were well over. Emails were sent out (to my knowledge), asking if the author wished to participate. Then, we started weedling down. I'm afraid that yours may not have made the final cut, and I apologize, but I do wish you luck next year.

I thought the new system was genius really even if it took forever to get up. The only possible problem I can see is people not looking at all of the comics and just voting with the comics in their "default" positions - unless the titles are mixed up everytime somebody loads the voting pages?

There was such a stinging sense of irony for these awards. On the one hand, this system was very well crafted and allowed tons of comics to get into the spotlight which instantly makes me think of this as a success. On the other hand, the timing of the restarting of college and the sheer number of comics that were presented actually made me feel less inclined to vote because I wanted to give everyone a fair chance and read them all. I personally didn't have the time to do that in a week sadly though I hope I'm in the minority on that one. If this system continues I'll certainly be ready for it! Going to set aside as much time as possible next time.

Great job this year you guys. I know it's not over yet but it's clear how much love, care, and ingenuity went into this year's Awards. I hope you're all proud of yourselves :)

I did like the drag and drop nature of voting, well up until I got to the page where 3 of my favorites were all on the same page. Not sure if I like the way the comics were narrowed down though, to tell you the truth. As much as I like the idea of trying to introduce new comics to people, the very fact that KaitoShuno, KissParade, and One Rainy Day didn't make the cut AT ALL in any category was just insane!
My biggest question is why several comics were in more than not just one category or even two, but I saw several of the same comics in at least 3 different categories. It could have been more than that as well, since I didn't vote in every category. Two categories I can understand, even up to 3 but the voting pool would have to be small in those categories.
I got fed up enough that I started sticking them at the bottom of the list, which happened way too many times in my opinion. If I've blown this out of proportion, then sorry, but this is my opinion.
Btw, I really missed "Most Improved" and "Best Characters" as separate categories.

I was not on the judging panel but as far as I recall each comic could be in a maximum of two categories from the total it was nominated from (basically if the comic was not nominated for that category it could not qualify). The judges picked the comics they felt best represented/exemplified those genres as well as demonstrated competent webcomic aspects (art, writing, etc.)

After a quick search in the nominations forum, I can tell you that KissParade was not in the running due to never being nominated, maybe next time someone will nominate it.

The usage of "kudos" has those so that no one has to lose out on them, so I feel it is for the better and I hope such implementation remains a constant in the awards.

This doesn't make sense to me, if you're told you're 'nominated' surely you should be part of the awards. :|

I don't really get why we have 'judges' I thought the idea was for the community to nominate and then vote for their favourite comics.
Top five or so nominations go through, then you vote.
This year's system was a nice change and obviously very carefully thought out, but I kind of agree with LibertyCabbage that it created too much work for the organisers and came across as a little overwhelming for the voters.
I understand you don't want it to be a popularity contest, but that's just how these things work. So long as the same comic isn't allowed to win every year I don't see the problem.

That unfortunately would be incredibly inconsistent.

While I think the idea sounds optimal, most voters don't actually do a whole lot of nominations themselves. It's not too much extra work but it's never a good idea to put too much work on the consumer of any product because their input can be inconsistent. Leaving it up to the users of the site to create a top 5 would just be another popularity contest which is what happened during the last awards. The Top 5 would be the ones most nominated and which would most likely create the winner just because of its popularity.

The idea of judges is to allow others to view all of the nominations and handpick the best for voting. There are dozens of people on the team so there's an equal representation for the picks as well. Then the best ones are voted on here but this time it's a lot easier to give more recognition to everyone because of the ranking and kudos system.

The issue with the popularity contest that they wanted to address is that the awards' were not designed to give recognition to comics that people already know are great. They were designed to showcase ALL of the great comics on the site so everyone could see the best ones. The actual award the winners get is nice but the real reward is the increased traffic and recognition that every comic gets the chance to receive, even if that is inconsistent in itself.

If you found the voting to be overwhelming for the voters, it would have been even more overwhelming without judges because they narrowed down the entries. And, again, IT WASN'T TOO MUCH WORK. The only reason things were delayed was because of personal issues people were having, NOT because we had created too much work for ourselves.

If you're so convinced it will be a popularity contest and that's all you want, than why bother with the awards at all? Obviously then you are expecting certain people to win, and that makes voting at all rather pointless. We wanted others to have a fair shot. We wanted the awards to be about getting people to read other comics - ones not already in their favorites - and share more work from within the community. That's what we were striving to do and what, I believe, we also accomplished.

But anyway

votes are currently being processed and will be posted within a couple of days.
