Important Template Change

Postby Admin » January 15th, 2017, 5:26 pm

Hey Everyone,

There's a new template variable:

Code: Select all
{SOCIAL_META_TAGS}

What it is:
This belongs in the <head> tag of your overall layout. It generates the <meta> tags that enable thumbnails when posting your comic to Twitter, Facebook, etc.

All of the default templates have been updated with the new variable. If you have a custom template, or if you've modified your overall layout layout template, you'll need to manually add it yourself.

Example of it in action:

(Also, you can now embed tweets on the forum)

What about spoilers?
I know some people probably won't want their comics spoiler'd when linked to, so there's also a new option in Site Management that will allow you to choose to display either the Comic Image (default) or your Comic Cover in social media previews.

I just add the part in your code-tag into my html?
That's it? And then I can use it even so I use a external css file for my customized template?

Just put it in your <head> tag as it's own line, that's all there is to it. It won't affect CSS or anything else (but don't put it inside your <style> tag or any other tag, just in the <head> itself).

Predictably, I have done this wrong and have no idea how to do this correctly, but it's a cool feature. Thanks Dan.

I'm definitely doing something wrong, cos it don't work for me! I should stick with analog things like frying pans and fire.

I dunno, mang. I just tested it on Facebook and Twitter and it seems to be working. FYI, on Twitter the "card" doesn't show up until after ya tweet it.
