I've got a question...

Apparently, the reply button is shown even for unregistered guests who comment. If I were to respond to a guest, what would happen?

I'm going to assume nothing, since a guest doesn't have to input their e-mail to comment... but... I still wonder.

if you reply to a guest comment, you could always just change their name - like:
@whiningguest or @guestwithcommentabout...

this makes me wonder if the registered priority really is the best idea... because if there's a guest you're @ing to, then a user with the same name would get an alert, even if they've never seen the comic. Or am I thinking about it wrong? (making the @ to the guest have a longer name only works if you remember to do that)

It only checks the people who actually replied, so if there's a user with that name, but only the guest commented, the guest would get the notification (except not since guests don't have an email to get notified, so effectively, if a user didn't comment on the page, replying to their name will do nothing).

Oooh, I just tried testing it a little. Looks like when you click the reply link, you don't have to have the @name part (which might be why I got an alert at one point without anyone talking to me - but I still like this), and that eishiya is right about above (unless there's a reply alert sent to them).

edit: I also tested case, since someone said they thought it was case sensitive, but it sent me a reply notice even when I put @asj or @aSJ.
Also, the reply comments are stored in the same place as the other comments, right? ...just wondering.

Guests can actually enter their email address now in case someone responds to one of their comments. If you reply to a guess and they had entered their email address, they'll get a notification.

Just one update to this:

Now if you add someone to a reply in an edit, they'll get an email notification if they weren't tagged in your post before.

After some testing, I think that's not quite true.
If I click the reply link, then delete the @name, they still get the first notification. But, if I edit that same reply and add in the @name, it'll send another notification, as well as if I tag someone, and then delete the tag, and then put it back.

So, the reply link doesn't depend on the text in the message, but editing the reply is dependant on the text within the message.
I think that might be a good thing, maybe. Like if you reply to someone, they respond back, and then you want to edit the same reply to add more, then they can get an alert of the change if you delete their name and then add it back (although it'd probably be easier, and clearer, just to make a new reply).

There seems to be no working way to reply to multiple people in one line. Doing something like @userA @userB Message or @userA: @userB: Message makes for broken code.

Does that include @userA message @userB message? Like if you want to say something like, "As @userA and @userB said, ....." or "@userA thinks ... but @userB says ..." (I know that last example made no sense, but I've seen people refer to two different people in the same sentence somehow)
