do you get bored reading your own comic?...

A place for folks to discuss the professional side of comics and webcomics.

It's more akin to whatever sort of a mood I'm in. I write LOTS of stories, most of which are in varying stages of planning and development. Different things inspire me in different ways, so sometimes I'm more interested in a particular story than another, but I'm always excited about all of them in the end. The ability to express myself and take people other than myself to other places with my own art and writing never gets old to me.

Don't find it boring, just really amusing. I only re-read from a certain point because I hate reading my older pages, they are about four years old ...! I cringe :S

I always thought that too, but then I started hearing that so many other people do it, I figured it must be The Done Thing :P

I sometimes look with a really cynical, even angry eye, but "bored" never describes the way I feel. Not for my comics, anyway. There's always something different to look at (GET IT BECOSS MY ART'S INCONSISTENT FROM PANEL TO PANEL)

Never put out work that you don't enjoy yourself. I think a lot of artist/writers feel like they should hate their own work but it's not all that conducive to improvement. If you really and truly love your story you'll reread it even if no one else does. I still reread terrible (horrible cringe-worthy) stories I wrote in middle school, and they're still enjoyable. I would never share them but I would read them again right this instant. If you get bored telling the story, well, there must be a way to give it some spice.

I don't get bored with it while I'm working on it. Projects that I finish though, I rarely want to look at again. by that time I'm pretty done with it.

Not so far. But I think I'm approaching the comic as a creator and not a reader. My mind is having fun with trying to solve the problems of telling this particular story, with the limits I've imposed on it from the start. So it's something of a thrill to look back at old pages and see how I solved one problem or another. Even when I see something that needs fixing, it's something that needs fixing, a new challenge, in other words. "I did it once, now do it again, but better!"

Whether a reader finds my comic boring is another story. So far nobody's said anything to me on that score. :|

In a word, never.

I'm passionate about my stories. I don't write stories I myself wouldn't want to read over and over. Often times I actually go back and read the stories to get myself jazzed again about drawing them if I'm feeling like I'm stalling.

I kinda feel like if I'm not excited about my stories, regardless if I know the ending or not, its hard to get other people excited about my stories. So I don't write things I personally can't get excited about.

I'm really bad with this stuff. I constantly hate EVERYTHING about my comic. If I hit the "upload button", then that means in about 5 seconds im going to hate 99% of everything on the page.

I have a script for a few years written and planned...but still find myself laughing or something during moments I've read over 5 times and written already.

The typing and drawing however does bore me sometimes.

People are their own worst critics, so I believe there will always be some level of doubt or discouraging feelings when you look back at your earlier work and think, "Wow, I could do so much better now." (Which, by the way, is a good thing. It indicates progress.) But as far as the story and characters go, they should be compelling even to yourself-- that is, if you're telling a good story.

If not, I'd take a step back and ask yourself why. Is the plot contrived or unoriginal? Are the characters relatable? What is so blatantly missing from your own comic that you yourself can't stand it? Personally, I don't think I could ever get bored of my work. I'm just as excited about it as I am about others being excited about it.

I write my comic together with a few different people and I find that REALLY helps. If we can all come to a consensus that an idea is pretty good, then it is probably okay to run it. It's hard to get bored that way cause I get to keep looking at my characters through the eyes of my co-writers and it pushes me to try and do more.

Even if you are just writing on your own, it helps to have somebody close to you that understands your comic to bounce ideas off of and try to get their feedback on what is actually boring and what is in your head. It's a real fine line.

I know that if I get bored, then I'm doing something wrong. Something really wrong.
