Rick and Morty

Rick and Morty

Postby MacSimon » September 12th, 2015, 1:34 am

I think there's no thread for this show yet, so...

Rick and Morty a hundred years!

I've seen Harmon do his work at Community, and honestly, after watching some of Roiland's failed pilots and series, THESE guys were meant to collaborate.
I love how everything keeps centered in a base, like how Jerry and Beth are never completely happy about each other, how Rick always chooses Morty over anyone for adventures, you know, like Community kept changing things about their character's ideologies and interests, but never changing who they are at their core.
And at the same time, how Roiland can do improv on the show, or do a gross, dark joke that you feel has taken it too far (Rick Potion 9, or the whole "Keep Summer Safe" from last week), but it always comes around.

So, I watched the first five episodes from Season 1. Meaning I'm 15 (the other 5 from S1 + the entirety of S2) episodes short of catching up.

It was written by a stenographer because this is a transcript from an actual court case in Georgia.

You can watch on the Adult Swim website if you log in with a participating cable provider, although they don't have all episodes. It works with our TV package from Cox.

I watched one episode when the first season was airing and was turned off my Morty's weird hair that looks like it's glued onto his cue-ball head. It wasn't until S2 that I realized this show was meant for me. It has exactly the absurd tone with serious moments that I love in comics and cartoons.

I was literally about to post this here. TheFunTrain is right; here's a link explaining the video (and, via a link at the top and another at the bottom of the first linked page, you can view the actual court transcript). This was a preliminary hearing for the case of State of Georgia v. Denver Fenton Allen. Allen allegedly killed another inmate while he was incarcerated at the Floyd County jail. He had some sort of disagreement with his court-appointed public defender, and wanted the court to provide another one, at one point even threatening to hold himself in contempt of court to avoid going to court with that attorney. This devolved into an eight minute long shouting match between Allen and the judge, which, in all honesty, any court attorney in the land would have a field day over any of the things the judge said during the exchange (particularly the part where the judge says he would likely find Allen guilty if he tried the case himself; nevermind the part where he says Allen "looks like a queer" and where he dares Allen to actually masturbate in the courtroom), and could possibly get Allen's case declared a mistrial and thrown out of court. If that was Allen's intention, if that was all a ploy to try and beat the rap, it's a pretty clever one.

No word on the outcome of the actual trial yet, but the creator of Rick and Morty heard it and decided to read the transcript, word for word, as Rick and Morty, during "Adult Swim On The Green" at this year's Comic Con.

Oh God, yes.

It reminded me a bit of Highlander, in that "there can only be one (Rick)."

I do hope he finds that Mulan McNugget sauce, though.
