New Subscriber Perk: *.thewebcomic.com

Postby Admin » August 29th, 2009, 5:23 pm

There's a new perk for Premium & Donator Subscribers. You can now choose *.thewebcomic.com as your primary domain, meaning your comic will be actually hosted on *.thewebcomic.com (rather than redirected from *.thewebcomic.com to *.smackjeeves.com).

For free users, you can still continue to give out yourdomain.thewebcomic.com as your link, but it will continue to redirect to yourcomic.smackjeeves.com (as it always has).

Also, if you do switch to *.thewebcomic.com, your site will redirect from *.smackjeeves.com to *.thewebcomic.com. It will be a seamless transition: If someone tries to go to a specific page on *.smackjeeves.com, it will take them to the same page on the new domain with absolutely no interruption. It has also been designed so that search engines will know to use the new domain when they try to crawl old pages.

Oh, that's pretty cool. Though, I like .smackjeeves.com. It lets the readers know what site gives us all these awesome features :3

I agree with Afrohawkman although I see why some people may want to do this I think that most will stay with the .smackjeeves.com ones

This may sound like a suckup move, but I love smackjeeves, and although I can see people enjoying this feature, I wouldnt want to switch my SJ name. :D

I agree with the above. I've seen other webcomics keep the name of their host, like keenspot. I really like what Smackjeevees has to offer, and am quite please to keep it in my address (of course, I am entitled to change my mind).

Yeah, seriously! He's been giving us updates non-stop! The other webcomic servers are gonna have to work pretty hard to keep up with all this! And for free! (Besides the whole Donators thing and such. ;) )

I actually like this feature a lot! When people are asking where to host a webcomic, I'll always refer them to Smackjeeves, but when I'm giving out the url to mine, I tend to write it as "thewebcomic.com." I have a lot of literary friends who wonder why Reginald Jeeves deserves such abuse, and it's easier to steer clear of such discussions.

Currently I'm fine with just Smackjeeves. It's more recognizable and I like the name nowadays; it grew on me.

I'm glad you like it. Even if people are wondering what hosting service you use, they'll inevitably end up going to http://www.thewebcomic.com, which simply redirects to Smack Jeeves, so it's all good in any case.

Sometimes people ask, "What's SmackJeeves" and I tell them it's the free host for my comics. Thanks for the opportunity, but I won't be switching to .thewebcomic.com. either :)
