Just to say, in spite the fact that many of these companies are unscrupulous bastards about persecution, that does not make piracy moral or acceptable. These people (and many others) are still doing something illegal, even though the ones mentioned here are unfairly over zealously targeted.

In part, I agree with you...But what about stories like Sony?

Sony are being immoral.
So are the torrenters they target.

Yes but their immoral actions do not absolve their target's immoral actions.

Think about this. If this law is passed, what other restricitng laws will be passed.

That law is a way for corporations to shutdown people who poke even the tiniest amount of fun at their products, or them in general.

The average corporate exucative makes at minimum 2.5 million per year, while the average webcomic or online game maker makes less than 10,000 per year from their original ideas (Not ones the corporats have.).The big companies can effectively use this to shut down any potential online non-corporate competition.

This law is like giving the rich children at the playground permission to step on all the other kids sand castles.

I do not support piracy, but niether do I support this. I can't sign a petition, because I am a Canadian Citizen.

If I could help I would.

Spoiler! :
Maybe send Sony a few viruses?

Sign up if you think this will help stop the bill coming to pass. Seems like a good idea.

I am in the same boat, except I am British. This law will affect more than just US citizens though. ISPs in the UK and Europe are already trying to enact laws and measures to block certain sites, and if this law is passed then it will give both them and the growing church presence more ammunition to work with.

Aye to being British... Aye to the law affecting so much more, a lot of sites are hosted on US servers. More than I'd like to think, since most the sites I follow are indeed based in America, not just their content and users... but their root domains.

Aye to certain sites being blocked - Doi, any hate sites against any cultures and countries will be protested and (sometimes unsuccessfully) banned and put on blacklists. England I am sure try and block many hate sites within Intranets and local networks. And at home... well... if you access a site they don't want you to your IP will be tracked and the site pulled if they can. As far as I know always been the way... Just its not that widespread or as a big ol law...

Nay or rather.... what the- to the church being more involved and ammunition... sites staying up gives them enough ammunition. Pull it all down and they have less to argue about -- at least in theory anyway...

... Could be... or could be not... not really a wave of tides I'm familiar with being from another country n all.

Most definitely... America and England are two different places indeed. Things vary per state as much as they vary per region. Rural England does not speak for more central England... Parts of Yorkshire vs "Greater Manchester" and all that jazz.
And contrary to the BBC being all church powered... explain Torchwood being produced by that HUGE company

Makes sense since there's a heck of a lot of it to go around.

Don't think it will happen though since the pornographic industry is quite a large one. Rumours have it that the internet became so popular because of pornography.
And if it goes off the internet then it will go back to DVDs and so forth.
