Suggestions & Feedback Posting Guidelines
The purpose of this board is to allow community members to suggest new features or changes to be added to Smack Jeeves. Even if you aren't sure of a specific solution, but you recognize the need for an improvement, point it out!

Before Posting
Please browse/search the forum to make sure your suggestion hasn't already been made by someone else. If you find an idea similar to yours, post your contributing thoughts to that thread. Don't start a new thread unless your idea is significantly different from existing suggestions.

Rules

    1) Use a descriptive title when making a suggestion or pointing out the need for improvement.

    2) Describe the problem / solution in detail. First, explain why there is a problem or a need for a new feature to begin with. Then, describe your proposed solution (if you have one) clearly and effectively.

    3) Respect others' ideas. If you disagree with someone else's ideas or suggestions, respectfully and factually state why. While debate over different solutions is fine, insults or personal attacks will not be tolerated.

Sticky System
Suggestions that have been approved and chosen for implementation by the development team will be stickied. When development begins on an idea, that topic will be moved to the New Features & Changes in Progress board.

New Subforums

I'm thinking about the gaming, music and tv threads in general discussion. I never actually go on them, just... Because there's so much there. The threads are so long, and that's a lot of trawling through things that aren't relevant to you. There's a Lot of computer games out there for them all to go into one thread for example. So I was wondering, would it be unreasonable for those threads to be made into their own subforums? It would make them much easier to look through.

Yes...I've abandoned keeping up long ago.
Which, as it turns out, was not a good move since I've fallen behind with a project of MacSimon's.

I think it must be particularly daunting for new members to see a thread with over five hundred pages.

It sounds like a good idea but I've noticed in other forums that those kind of subforums end up getting extremely cluttered with a million threads and then people make 5 millions copies of the same thread because they get lost in the archive somewhere and it really becomes a mess. While i agree that a 500 page topic can become quite unapproachable, it really does keep it all better organized in the long run.

I'm all for giving it a whirl though to see how it all goes.
Any SJ related questions? Feel free to look around, and if you can't find an answer, make a topic here and we'll get to you as fast as we can! :D

Perhaps an Entertainment subforum? We can move those stickies there, but also allow smaller-range topics.
I don't think it'll get so much traffic as to warrant separate Gaming/Music/Movie subforums.
Busy, busy.

Yeah, this sounds good, especially given that musical discussion would be quite limited even in comparison to the other two.

We need an entertainment sub-forum. I feel wrong for posting those things in the general section when the only things in the general section should be somewhat art-related or relevent to the website. AN ENTERTAINMENT SUBFORM would give us a place to talk about all the latest current events/tvshows/movies/bands/EVERYTHING.

I really wanna make a thread bashing the hell out of tracy morgan for what he said about gay people. That would probably go in the entertainment section because hes supposed to be a comedian and its making news. We could also link to funny youtube videos. Which is what happens all the time in multiple threads.

Or maybe a "thread game" subforum?? Since the general discussion is mostly filled with these threads.
That separates these threads from what is a real general discussion.

My only problem with this idea is that one of the reasons those threads exist is to just post random crap you're having fun with and move on, since most people don't really care to discuss anything but a few subjects here and there.
If we had, for example, an entire subforum dedicated to gaming, we'd have dozens of single-game/series-related threads that get no responses and then a few threads that get insane amounts of responses just because the game is more popular. I mean maybe if we had threads dedicated to separate companies they'd be more active but it would still sort of divide up the gamers of the forum, and that wouldn't be nearly as fun as the gaming thread if you ask me. Even if many people don't discuss every little thing posted in the stickies it still gives a nice community feeling to them.

... And that's just Gaming... Think of how chaotic the Music "subforum" would be.

I do support Troll's idea of a subforum for thread games, though. Even though General Discussion would likely become a lot less active, haha.

*EDIT*
I could see an Entertainment subforum being a good idea for threads that don't really fall into the big three as long as those can stay stickied. I wouldn't want the stickies to be dissolved and replaced by a slew of response-less threads. :C
Now what might this be?

I am all for putting forum games in some separate section. Ugh.

Agreed with Seven Rain about the over-abundance of one-off posts. I think the stickies should stay, primarily for "What are you playing/watching/listening now" purposes (like the stickies used to be), and discussion could get its own threads.

I agree. GD is pretty bogged down with these kinds of threads, most of which I never look at but still tend to be pretty active and drown out the more discussion-based threads that deserve more time at the top than they get. I know the Forum Games section on the old boards were a bit of a problem, but I think if they were monitored properly that situation wouldn't arise again. I think we've probably got an active membership that wouldn't really stray into the kind of racist crap that I remember being the big problem.

I may be stoned for this but, I dont like it 8(. Atleast not in the general threads section. It may be just a nitpicky aesthetic reason, but seeing it just visually placed under the life issues thread just seems wrong to me...

An entire Entertainment forum thingy isnt possible?
