Smack Jeeves Mobile Beta 2

Postby Admin » March 2nd, 2012, 6:23 pm

Almost a year ago we announced a Smack Jeeves Mobile Beta with the intent of making it easier for people to read comics on their smartphones. Long story short, that version wasn't really good enough to release, and now we have a version that we think is much better.

So, we're now launching the second Smack Jeeves Mobile Beta. As with last time, if you'd like to be included in the beta, just let us know in this thread, and we'll give you access to it.

Currently Android and iOS are supported.

Here's a demo: http://neonglow.smackjeeves.com (gotta be on your smart phone, of course - and thanks to Neon Glow for participating in the last beta so we could show something off that was better than "Fun with Two Cakes")

EDIT: Currently we're just testing the comic reader. The next thing to be added will probably be reading/adding comments.

Count me in on the Beta!

EDIT: Currently looking at the comic with my iPod Touch (1st Generation) with the Opera Mobile Browser and it doesn't like it. It loads the comic only as large as my screen and then doesn't let me do anything from there. Scrolling doesn't go down the comic and zooming doesn't work. It works fine on Safari, however. Maybe it's just my wonky-ass iPod. 1st Gen touch doesn't like a lot of things...

Ah, yes, only Mobile Safari and the native Android browser are currently supported.

Oh! I'm being featured for Demo! Thanks and your welcome. (I better go update some pages! XD;)

I still would like a link from where you submit a page, You know where it says You comic is posted and you can click links back to management of view page. It would be nice to have a link leading it to the Define Panels (to the page you uploaded for the best.) as a reminder to update that. I've been lazy and forgetting lately. XD;

I'll have to mess with the Mobile two this weekend when I get the chance. =3

Yeah. Tried it on my iPod. 3rd Gen. Truthfully, once I checked the comics, I noticed its a bit...conky.
It couldn't seem to notice the difference between zooming and scrolling. The bar at the bottom is nicely placed, a simple, easy to understand interface. I had'ta quit at that point, the zoom/pan shenanigans really pestered me. For now, I'm stickin' to manual. Also, perhaps you should make a way to exit to the normal(non-mobile) site.

I was using it yesterday, I had a hard time going to next page ad zooming and such. But I think that might be due to the page loading. It seemed to work OK when things were laded. Maybe a way to fix this would to have something showing that its loading. I don't know if that can be coded in or not.

I agree with Traca. Having a way to turn it off would be nice if someone dose not want it. I know some sites that do this. Like Deviant Art is one I don't like on.

Okay, that sounds like FireFox. I've disabled the Mobile mode for incompatible browsers.

Its nice and works fine on Android 2.2 using Metro PCS. I say using the regular interface is better recommended for constant interaction by me. It took me a while to notice that it centers on a panel one by one. The set up for centering is also questionable. Would we comic posters have to use an extra system to outline panels?

I wouldn't mind being in the beta, too. I had gone through and defined panels on most of the pages for one of my comics; will I have to go back and do it again?

Yes, there's a system for specifying where the panels are on each comic. Currently it's a totally manual process, but we're looking into a way of possibly automating it.

If you were in the beta the first time around, you should be in the beta now, still, and the panels you had defined before should still be there. Just go to the Smack Jeeves Mobile section of comic management.
