The Trouble with Sprites

Throughout my career as a novice spriter and comic maker, I've noticed a recurring issue in the sprites I often use. You may ask, what? Spriters always have their sprites gone through, checked for repeats, and posted after they've been tested. Well, there's one thing sprite testers don't check for: Something I like to call "White Syndrome." White Syndrome is a very simple mistake that many sprite rippers make. You see, we rip our sprites from ROM files. However, these ROMs aren't optimized for rippage, because they have one simple problem: The white in objects REALLY IS WHITE! When spriters rip these objects, they often neglect to recolor the white into the generally accepted extremely light grey that simulates white, resulting in the aforementioned White Syndrome and making parts of the sprites transparent when they are pasted into a sprite comic. I finally got sick of it and wrote this post so that comic makers like us wouldn't have to make those parts light grey ourselves. The color of the supposed whiteness does matter!

But seriously, wouldn't I have to wait until more mods are actually needed? If not I guess I'll quit being a baby and be down for it once I'm done with my Summer Job in August, since I won't have much time as usual to be on SJ while I'm working anyway.

When I first saw the title of this post I thought of the Star Trek episode "The Trouble With Tribbles." Then, I imagined a bunch of Mario and Sonic sprites running around on the Enterprise.

Hmmm, was expecting this to be a little more serious given the title that or something silly. Wpould just stuck with White Syndrome or some kind of silly white pun title like "White A-noize" or "White not so Out".

But silliness and horrible punz aside, it is a bit of an annoyance. Ran into it a few times when looking up sprites.
