Artist Available for Right Project

Postby Blaeringr » April 2nd, 2012, 3:34 pm

***EDIT*** As of April 03 I have found a writer and am committed to a project for a little bit. Thank you all for your replies. :)

So I like to draw, and would like to think I'm quite decent at it (although my coloring needs practice), and I'd like to find someone with a good comic idea. You write the script, I draw up some character concepts, we send them back and forth until we both like what they look like, I draw the pictures for the script, you paste them into the comic and add text, we both link comic to our accounts (is that possible to set up two authors for a webcomic on this site?)

Here's a link to my DeviantArt account: link.
-This is mostly non-colored work. One folder has stuff that is a mix of digital coloring which is then printed and then shaded by hand with chalk. Currently though I'm working on doing stuff completely by hand with oil paints, and I will upload some of that to my account soon.
-I draw in either a more realistic style, or
-I have my own cartoony style I've been working on/developing since I was in high school.
-both are visible on my DeviantArt site.
-my strength is in drawing people/characters, but I use google sketchup to help me reference buildings and sometimes backgrounds.

What I'm willing to work on:
-I don't do Manga style. I can, but I don't.
-no interest in any BL stories. I say that because I have seen how popular that is as an element in webcomics.
-no interest in a story about school life.
-not interested in doing a guest strip for someone else's comic.
-looking for something where I'm the main artist. I can adapt my own style to mimic someone else's, but that's not very appealing.

So please feel free to suggest such a project to me. If I like you're idea, we can start working on something right away.

I have a comic that I'm planning to start soon. It's a fantasy-adventure-comedy set in a Polynesian setting. The premise is that the hero is the chosen one, he is destined to defeat evil and save the world. However, something happens to were destiny gets screwed-up and all the characters have to deal with the recoil.

I'm really looking for a colorist and maybe an inker or cowriter. However, if you can give me a better examples of your art, I could consider you for the artist.
In any case, if you want to help with some character designs, that'd also be great.

I'm working on some pictures for a comic which is my own idea. I'll be posting them to my DeviantArt account soon. In any case, if you're not looking for an artist though, then I don't see that going anywhere.

As far as my own comic I mentioned (in the folder "Modern Magic Idea"), I'm not progressing so well on the writing side of it. Lots of ideas and pictures and concepts, but very slow on the writing. I'm hoping to gain a bit of insight working with someone else before I get back to that one. Maybe I'll even talk someone into doing the writing for that one for me.

Expirienced Writer looking for Artist

Postby Kei163 » April 4th, 2012, 9:06 pm

I'm Robert...A.K.A. Kei ...and I have worked on webcomics in the past and hope to start up my old habit. Among other things, I've worked on a chapter of a comic called Supercosmic http://supercosmic212.blogspot.com/ as well as comics for artificialcomix.com such as Parkbench Dreamer http://www.artificialcomix.com/parkbenchdreamer/Slideshow.htm and and My Headache http://www.artificialcomix.com/myheadache/Slideshow.htm

Your style reminds me of the comic Erfworld where the characters are somewhat cartoonish is build but quite expressive in practice. I have a few ideas of my own that might work with your style...but if there's something you're looking for in terms of content, tone, or genre, I can definitely whip up some new ideas that may fit what you want to draw for. Anyway, here are my current ideas.

1. First Earth is a land of ocean and islands, a land populated by winged human-like beings that survive in small tribes and towns. These creatures call themselves the Seconds. There are many stories explaining the name among the Secs, the most popular and well known among them claiming "The beasts came first, and we came second."

The Secs, while in their towns with decent numbers, are safe. However not everyone is satisfied with their place, those eager for advancement, as well as adventures, seek out new islands to populate. However untamed islands can be dangerous places for Secs, places where untold of monsters both of flesh and metal reside. The tales of [working title] First Earth deal mostly with those who adventure into the unknown and return to tell the tale, as well as depictions of life in the towns.

2. Eden is a young girl who, upon finishing her SATs, is shot due to excessive noise afterwards by her proctor. Having lived an average life and not doing enough good deeds to warrant entry into heaven or reincarnation, she is assigned as a guardian angel to some boy just a few years younger to herself until she can work up enough karma. Chaos ensues as Eden deals not only with her bizarre afterlife, but also with the schoolyard troubles of a shy and skinny boy. (This idea may not be down your alley because halve of the content involves a young boy and of course, young boys go to school. But the comic really is more about Eden than anything else, although a good part of the comic is about her interactions with him. Also I doubt moments in school would constitute the majority of the boy's and Eden's adventures. I know it sorta falls under your "denied" list, but I felt I'd include it anyway since I'm partial to the idea of doing a story about a guardian angel.)

3. A young man in a world much like ours, inherits a glass egg from his grandfather, who always told outlandish stories about far off places and worlds hidden beneath our noses. The young man finds one day that the egg has cracked open...revealing a mist that is unseen by others and follows the young man around and even communicates by changing its form and forming simple sentences that only the young man can hear. The "cloud" also exhibits the ability to change into living beings and thus be seen. This comic focuses on the day to day as the young man, a young college age student, teaches the "cloud" about everyday life in the modern day. This comic focus's more on "slice of life" vignettes than fantasy.

There, that should give the perspective artist an idea of my abilities and what sort of stories I usually tell. E-mail me at robert-finch@comcast.net if you're interested.

Eagerly awaiting your response,
Sincerely,
Robert/Kei

Kei/Robert, I really like your ideas. I am however committed to a project right now (I should probably have this thread closed). I'd like to keep you in mind though and contact you in the future. If you're still free then, I'd definitely like to work on one of your ideas.
