Which Program is good with making Manga? (Works with Tablet)

Postby ColeDX » May 6th, 2012, 7:52 pm

I use Corel Painter Essentials 4 and I use a Bamboo Touch for my Drawing Tablet.

Corel Painter Essentials 4 is actually a better program to use when making pages and stuff, but I'm just wondering, is there another program that's good with making Manga?

Like, what kind of Program would you normally use? (Crossing out the possibilities of drawing on paper and Scanning it, I draw my sketches out on my program)

And if possible, know any free programs that works with making good decent Manga? I'm not picky or anything, I would buy the program myself, but unfortunately, I can't afford expansive ones (I'm currently in 9th Grade, but i've been working on making simple comics ever since I was a kid, so yeah, want to improve on my drawing a little)

I would update my comic to Dotator or Premium, but the only way I could is through credit card, and the only one who has it is my dad, and he doesn't trust the website with his money, lol

And I CAN use my program Corel Painter Essentials 4 to draw it decently, but when I save the page as JPEG File, on high quality, it might go over 500kb, my maximum upload limit. If I go lower at like 90% Quality, it ends up getting small dots every where, like REALLY noticeable dots (Happens sometimes, gets annoying, it doesn't bother me most of the time unless the dots are just extremely noticable)

So pretty much a program that can be used to draw pretty decent manga and be able to save files with good quality at it's lowest file saving limit.

Sorry if I'm sounding like I'm asking too much when, I know I sound stupid when I'm asking this, I'm kind of a noob on other programs like this, except MangaStudio and TokyoPop, that much I know, I just want my work to look the best as possible, if I can. (Yeah I know, I'm asking too much)

Just a favor I'm asking to improve on drawing :)

Currently starting up a new Web Comic, I'm a bit more serious on this than my last Web Comic (Just a Pokemon comic I made for fun)

Any art program would be good for manga as long as you know how to use it. This topic has a list of programs that are FREE!

Personally, I use Photoshop because I can set screentones as patterns, but I believe you can do the same in GIMP.

EDIT: Actually, erase, Corel Essentials 4 won't let you save as PNG. (I know. I used to have it...)

PNG is too big, JPG is the correct choice :p

That really depends on what your page looks like and how you save it. In some cases, PNG can actually be significantly smaller.
Busy, busy.

I have honestly never got a case in which JPG was smaller than PNG without lowering the quality so much it looks awful.
