Everything I do is really flat. I need more ... depth.

That's my problem. I have a lot that I need to work on, especially along the comicking lines, but the worst problem I have is not doing anything. I've been pretty busy lately, but not now so I don't have any reasons to slack off anymore, so my plan for improvement is actually sitting down and trying to work on stuff. Even if its just half and hour a day working on the script, trying to improve it, its a lot better than doing nothing.

Less vague list:
confidence/speed: I'm going to try and do more speed drawings and gesture drawings to help me try drawing faster and not spending so much time worrying over details. Also not "doodling" so much, and instead actually finish stuff.
coloring and shading: I hate coloring. So much so that I will usually do my stuff in black and white instead of coloring. I'm going to really try and work on trying to understand color theory and color matching so that my colored pictures don't always look like mud when I finish them. I've been bookmarking links whenever I come across them.
backgrounds: I don't do them enough, and when I do they are always dull and lack detail. My aim is to try and study more perspective and ideas to get away from that.
WritingI haven't written anything in a long time, except for the random scribbles that I have to keep my ideas, so I'm going to try and sit down and write at least a page of comic script a day. And then get up the courage to re-read them and fix the grammar problems.

There's so much more that I need help with on improving, but for now i think that I'm going to keep the list short and not stress so much. Afterall, I think most of the things I have problems with could be improved with just doing anything that's not margin doodles.

Water and fire. It's not that they're made of too many particles - so are smoke and clouds and I can do them fine. I guess it's trying to get something that is both fluid and crisp at the same time. My water always looks like ice and the less said about my fire the better. I really try to avoid having to draw them as much as possible.

The biggest thing I need to improve upon is... actually focusing on improving something. Here's what's getting under my skin at the moment (art-wise).

Line confidence has to be my biggest weakness. I need to find some way to do some contour drawings.

Practicing landscape and perspective is needed, as it's an absolute must for a future comic.

Doing tonal studies and a some life drawing/gestures of animals would definitely help, too.

There's a whole lot of other things, but those are the main ones right now.

Spoiler! :
My life drawings are always from angles where the man's penis is conveniently covered up. Like this (not mine).

So I guess I can empathize with you on this one. I need to draw more wieners and stuff too.

everything. oh my god, everything. It will never end... 8D
ummm, but in the immediate future, I'd really like to work on backgrounds/environments, improving/speeding up my drawing process, and being more consistent with the way I draw my characters!

I don't think I can focus on one thing. everything can use improvement. if i have to pick one thing though, i guess it'd be shapes. >_>;; freaking circles.

Typography. This is going to be the death of me. I've been drawing for a good 15 years, but I only recently realized that there is more to lettering than "put words in speech bubbles."

I sometimes have some issues with stiff looking figures or getting perspective right when figure drawing, but getting better with that is just a matter of practice. I still make a ton of mistakes, but at least I know how to practice correctly. With the lettering issue... I'm having to relearn over a decade's worth of bad practice.

Conveying motion better, perspective somewhat, and maybe look into another toning method. Drawing speed too. I'd say iv'e gotten inking down recently, but I guess that's based on opinion, and backgrounds are looking a lot less empty in pages. It feels like there are few things to improve, but there's probably plenty more.

Few people would believe I was experimenting with an inking style, so I'm forced to word it this way

... Everything .___.
Narrowing it down to reasonable length, though motion and trying to give character's a "fluid," look has been giving me a rough time. I could also use some practice with backgrounds. Landscapes are pretty tough, but drawing manmade things are worse, so many straight lines and perfect angles D:
Scripting in general is a pain, too. I have all these ideas in my head, but they all fall apart when I try to commit them to paper. I'd be completely lost with writing dialogue if it weren't for one of my friend's help.
