Artist looking for writer for BL/GL story

Postby Pixel8ed » April 18th, 2012, 10:38 pm

Hello! I am interested in creating a boy love or girl love (homosexual-centric romance) story, if you happen to have any laying around. They can be any genre, anything like that.

Samples removed due to personal reasons. Please feel free to request over PM.

Edit: I have gone a little more into depth of what sort of thing I want a couple posts down.

Really, my criteria is that it involves some sort of relationship, whether or not it's the main focus, so it's a pretty wide range. So, think about Joss Whedon's works. Yes, Buffy is technically about a girl who fights vampires, but show is much more invested in her interaction with her friends, with her enemies, and the psychological impacts of events. So, it's largely a character driven story. That's why the show can get away with doing a lot of crazy alternate reality stuff, because even though the setting is different, the characters are pretty much the same people. Then you have things like 1/2 Prince, if any of you guys have read that manga/book (I've read the manga, or at least a good chunk), where characters play a virtual reality game and a girl chooses to play a boy character. So, while that story has that setting and has the world-building aspect, the story is focused on how people react to the male character that the girl plays, and pretty much everyone developing a crush on her (so, basically a really cheesy shoujo plot, but I still love it so much). To make an example of something that relates to this topic, stories like Strawberry Panic and and Sukisyo (the ending for that anime is so bad, but I'm okay with it) are largely focused on "who's going to get together with who"? I know I've upset people by bringing up Kuroshitsuji before, but I think a lot of the attraction (at least for me) with that show is trying to figure out what kind of a relationship Ciel and Sebastian have (again, maybe it's just me, since I've seen the first, middle, and last episode, and maybe scattered clips from others, so I really don't know. I just love how both seasons end. Both are kind of twisted and unromantic, which is just fantastic.) The way I see it, there's these two characters who have completely different types of pride, and pretty much it's watching them subverting the other's authority in such a passive-aggressive way. To be honest, I'm not crazy with how the actual story plays out, and feel I could go on a rant about it, but I still enjoy aspects of it.

I hope I haven't offended any fans. However, if you are offended if you don't like some of the shows I mentioned, then that's your problem. Generally I don't like someone giving me a laundry list of problems they have with the things I use as examples, so that's something to avoid if you do contact me. I don't have a problem with anyone disagreeing with my opinions or tastes, it's just a bit belligerent to go out of your way to make negative comments about things I like. I'm mentioning this because it's happened a couple times, where someone is like " I don't see why anyone likes Harry Potter. It's so boring. But besides that I think you sound okay. Here's my ideas for a story." Just don't mention if you don't like something unless it's relevant to the conversation. That felt so snarky to write. I hope I don't come off as bitter.

Are you just doing this for practice? You might want to include more details on what kind of story you're looking for.

Well, I just want something that is kind of sexy or romantic, whatever it is. The main objective is the attraction of two characters, and how they deal with it. So, ranging from a highschool drama story to a science fiction war story, where the conflict could be anything from survival to dealing with the difficulty of being different, or maybe just the issues of overcoming shyness and having trust in someone. I'm interested in the homosexual relationship story because it is going to present conflict, no matter what kind of story it is. On the one level people can be so shy about the matter of relationship, or either that very open, so the dynamic between two very strong personalities can create a conflict. There is also the conflict of homosexuality being taboo, so you will have these characters who can't feel the "normal" way about romance, and try to deal with it in their own ways, or others will be very in-your-face.

My main interest is in the process of two characters falling in love, or going into a relationship that may or may not be based on love, so the conclusion of the story is going to answer whether or not they ended up together. So, if it's a horror, and one character is completely insane, you want the other character to get free from that mess, or maybe the insane person to become sane. Or maybe, post-apocolyptic or zombie story, it can be about two characters who become affectionate because they are simply the only people left.

If it's going to be a softer, more feel-good story, maybe it's just two shy characters, or just a "how these two met" sort of romance.

Or it could be two characters who have known each other for a while, but just come to term with their feelings. You can take that sort of idea into a sports story with team members, or a coming-of-age story, or anything like that.

So, in essence, I'm looking for a character driven relationship (not necessarily love) story that is directed towards older audiences, but is appropriate for this site.

I hope that covers everything.

I do appreciate that you've taken the time to elaborate on what you want. Also I feel this would be a good time to remind you to post some of your own artwork up for other prospective writers.

Regardless, I wouldn't mind writing something for you, my writing sample is my own comic (link is the banner in my sig) and a disclaimer that I am a bit critical/picky, but for the most part I feel I am fair and am open to anything so long as it can be justified to a decent enough extent (any criticisms I give will have ample support, never a simple "Just because" line of reasoning). If you want to know to what extent you can check out how I do critiques/reviews in the "Webcomic Review" section.

Other than that, best of luck in your search, I'm sure you'll find someone.

From what you've said, I'd love to try writing something for you.But like blankd said it'd be nice to see a sample of your artwork first. Honestly I've been thinking about doing a partner comic with someone for a while since I'm uncomfortable with my own artwork and stick with things better when I have someone to work with.

So if you're interested, let me know and we can talk things over a bit more. If not, good luck in whatever you decide to do. :)

Thank you for reminding me. I got so wrapped up with replying to your post that I forgot my main intention was to put up some samples! Haha, I have done that now. Thank you. And I will check out your link, but I don't want to assume you'll be interested after what you see.

Art skill isn't going to make you any less viable (everyone starts somewhere, it's all about practice), just include how much you want to improve (assuming you want to, forgive my presumption if you aren't).

So, if I work with you, you'd be giving me critiques on what I send you, and maybe redline some shit? I've seen what you can do, so honestly tips would be awesome if you're up for doing that.

Sure if you want, I don't see why not.

Well, if you don't already have a writer, I would love to write for you! =D

I don't have much in the way of examples, besides my own words. If you'd like, I wouldn't mind writing up a quick makeshift script or two for you to observe. ^^

From what you've already posted, I believe that I'm quite interested. It would be an experience for me, as I have never written for anything like this before. Sure, romance isn't a new genre for me, but, it's never really been the focus of anything I've written before, so, this would be an excellent experience.

=D Please, reply back soon~

Maybe we can do a small one-pager together first to get an idea of each other's work methods? I don't want you to put in the effort of a large script and then find out we don't work well together.

Anyway, looking forward to hearing from you.

Hello, I'm Felis Selita.

Are you still looking for a writer? Because I think I have just the near-perfect storyline for the kind of story that you've elaborated. I did not originally plan on making it a manga (a manga that should be censored even XD), but I'm pretty flexible with that. When I read what kind of story you wanted, I was just amazed that we have quite the same perception about BL story, the kind that involves feelings but still manages to be sexy. I think this might work well. If you're still interested, I'll send the concept to you via PM later. Lastly, I'd also like to see sample of your drawing style. Thank you~ ^^
