My many signatures and avatars

Postby Carlos Winters » November 22nd, 2009, 11:57 pm

These are signatures and avatars I've made this year. Kinda started seriously this year. As you can see, I got good quick. Yay!
And I made the ODST signatures for Halo3, not Halo3 ODST, lol..
These are from oldest to latest. I'll add more as I go, these are just the ones from my photobucket ^^;

Feel free to do some cnc, and don't be afraid of making signature/avatar/banner requests ^^;

ODST Meteora2: I was into ODST, made a few of these, this is the only ODST Meteora that I kept(it was the only decent one)
Image

ODST Rain: Turned out awful..
Image

ODST LD2: Also awful, but better than LD1.
Image

Monster Sig: I was feeling monstrous, and decided to make this. It turned out beautiful.
Image

Monster Sig2: Decided to remake it with more/better monsters, and better coloring
Image

Raziel Sig: Any other Legacy of Kain fans?
Image

Raziel Avatar: Matching avatar, yay!
Image

Kain Sig: I like Legacy of Kain. Kain is smexy. I like Kain.
Image

Kain Avatar: Matching avatar for my Kain sig. Sexy <3
Image

Vergil Sig3: It was done on request. This was the only good one from the batch. I like it :D
Image

Dark Lotus5: I made a lot of these.. Most turned out crappy. Even this one turned out bad, but not as bad as the others. <3 Dark Lotus
Image

Raziel Sig2: Added text and used it for a sig in a Halo3 clan called DRO. My gamertag was DRO Pilot. Fun fact: Those are lyrics to Invincible by Static-X
Image

Raziel Avatar2: Decided to remake the avatar. The first used an image of Raziel that was already in the sig(left one)
Image

Kain Sig2: First one had googly eyes on Kain, decided to remake it and fix it up.
Image

Villain Sig: Made for Collectively Known As "Villain" when I had the idea for it about a week ago.
Image

Heatman: Took a shot in gif images. Made an avatar to promo Collectively Known As "Villain".
Image

Villain Sig2: Screwin' around with gif more. Gif'd the old villain sig.
Image

Rape: More Collectively Known As "Villain" promos.. lol.. I like this one :D
Image

Stomp: I wanted to promote smoking, rape, and ball stompage. Capt. America's balls are shielded, unfortunately..
Image

Shredding2: First one was too fast.. This is the slow one.. Still too fast..
Image

Gyro vs Mario Bros Unfinished: lol, I never finished this.. Meant to add "Collectively Known As" to the end, never did..
Image

Heatman Full: Evened it out, used all the intro and smoking frames. Much better than the last <3
Image

Freezeman Full: Used the whole intro sequence, added a couple attacks, now it looks like he's dancing. Yay!

I thought so at first, too.. About a week of using them and I lost interest, though..

I lose interest in my sigs and avatars quick.. And I have to make new ones whenever I do ._.

The artwork I used for them, however, still looks beastly.

Wow, a whole gallery filled with things you didn't draw, render, or sprite.

Think you could show us some of your work?

It is my work..

I took images and made them better, and animated sprites.
Even though I didn't make the original art used, I was the one who edited them and turned them into the art that they are now.
It is my work, and my art.

I've had this arguement too many times to count, I won't continue beyond that..

So, can you make anything for yourself?

Yes, I can, as you've seen.

If you mean make art from scratch, then that's also a yes. I paint, sketch, and I can do tattoos, too, but that one is still a work in progress. Just started doing that this year.

I'm not seeing anything you made in this thread.

Then show us that. I'd like to see something you made, not some faceless corporation.

You don't seem to understand.. Editting an image is making it something else. What it is after edits is, actually, something I made.
I did make these, just not from scratch.

And the only thing I made from scratch that I have a picture of is the first tattoo I did.
You can see it if you'd like.
Spoiler! :

And I'm not so sure I understand what you mean by "faceless corporation".. Please explain..

Editing an image means conforming to the limits set before you. It's a crutch. It means showing us the same thing everyone has seen so many dozens, hundreds of times in yet another color palette.

I'm a tremendous fan of pixel work, but these edits are so friggen dull and lifeless. It's not making something else, so much as taking the same thing everyone has done before and making yet another iteration on it.

Carlos Winters wrote:And I'm not so sure I understand what you mean by "faceless corporation".. Please explain..

You're a person. You're not some corporation who we can only see the face of through what they release and the services they provide and the legal/corporate actions they take. You're a human who we can interact and talk to. And I for one want to see what you are capable of doing, not what you've altered of what others are capable of doing. I want to see your skills, your talents, your progress.

By editing, you're showing me someone else's finished product. That someone else is hidden behind a faceless corporation. I can't talk to them. I can't see who they are. All you're saying by showing me edits is that you don't want to show your own talent or progress. You're showing me other people's talent and progress and the very slight impressions you've made on their talent and progress.

And frankly, you can do so much more.

Nice Tattoo. Design is a tad simplistic, but the lines are clean and the composition looks good.

It's not that I don't want to show my own talent or progress, I have no problem showing off my sketches and such, but as I said, the only thing I actually have a picture of is the first tattoo I did.

And it's more than simply a change in color palette. It's actually a rather difficult process. I had the same mindset that you have now until I actually gave it a try for myself.
It's really not as simple as it may seem.

It's nothing I haven't done before, and more intensively.

Do you know what Rotoscoping is? I'm an animator. Rotoscoping is an animation technique, where animators trace over an existing sequence of frames and draw a different character on top of them. It's like what you do except it's ten times as many frames, and requires ten times as much drawing.

You know what's harder than rotoscoping? Doing it without the original video to trace. Making it all up.

Worse, I used to edit all of a decade ago. Before I became an animator.

There is no ideology that I criticize without having experienced it fully. Except Twilight fandom, and I mostly just make snide jokes.

If you're only drawing over existing frames, wouldn't it be just twice as many, not ten times as many?

And since there is a lack of drawing to begin with, wouldn't drawing to begin with be an infinite amount more instead of simply ten times more?
Since you can't multiply nothing into something, it would litterally be an infinite amount more than to begin with.

And also, you win. I give up on this arguement, you're right. Though there was work involved, the tools used were images already made instead of images I made myself.

You've turned my life around. I'm going to give a shot to making sprites myself for my next batch of .gif images instead of using pre-existing sprites.
Would you be so kind as to link me to the nearest tut?

And eventually, I'll get around to uploading some of my sketches and I'll show those off and completely rename this thread.

Both statistics are completely made up.

The first one about the number of frames is partially based on truth. In the rotoscope jobs I've done, it involved a hell of a lot more frames than the average sprite sheet contains.

Completely changed your life around? Wow, I honestly can't help but feel a tinge of sarcasm there.

As for tutorials, I posted a GIGANTIC list over in the tutorial section: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2229

Largest list of pixel tutorials ever. Third revision. If your gif of making something from scratch is good, send it to me. I'll host it on imageshack and add it to the list.

Yes, I was being sarcastic with the "turned my life around" comment :P

But I'm definitely going to check out the tutorials and make the worlds most beastly supervillain sprite sheets.
