The optimistic thread

Postby Czar Squid » February 7th, 2010, 12:34 pm

Too many times do I hear the woes of the world; Poverty, unemployment, tragedy, pessimism. Sometimes we focus so much on them that we forget the precious moments of happiness that occur.

So with that, I'll begin with a short story. I had an assignment in a philosophy class about the first chapter of Bertrand Russell's book. While I got the main idea of the concepts, the assignment was to give a 5-7 minute speech on why the author was right or wrong. I choose to agree with the author and spent the weekend trying to word out my speech. However, I was never a good public speaker, and I didn't have a chance to talk to the professor in this time. Well, the speech didn't go as planned, I panicked and doubted the very words I was speaking. Causing me to repeat what I said, and had awkward pauses in the speech. After I was asked to sit down, I felt horrible for messing up. Well, after the class was done, he went over the whole speech. He had a grading sheet in front of him, and he begin to ask me questions on my speech. Turns out I did well on some parts and was weak on others. I walked out of that class with a low B. Which really made my day after the whole screw up.

Another thing that made me happy. I drew on the Pringle's can on my desk. My roommate bursted out laughing when he saw it. It made me happy.

So with that, what are some highlights to your day? It doesn't have to be a story, it can be something your grateful for, or found something that brighten your day.

Talking to my bf on the phone for an hour before going to bed each night is something that I really look forward to, and puts me in a good place before getting some shut eye.

I also spent some time with a calendar this morning and mapped out projected progress on my cartooning thesis... if everything goes according to plan, I'll have it done on time, if not early.

And I woke up this morning to find the sun out and the sky clear. Being from Southern California, I particularly cherish sunny days in New York.

I like this thread. This is a good thread.

ok, well, yesterday was pretty bad for me (my friends said they would call me to go to a party with them, and got me all excited. They never called, so I was waiting for hours.)

But today I woke up to find that my mom had made me chocolate chip muffins. :) So I'm eating muffins and watching Doctor Who right now. This is a start to a good day.

I went to visit my grandma today and she wanted to know where she could buy giant googly eyes to put on her tree in the front garden.

Also on the way home there was a cat with a human face :)

This is an awesome thread B-)

Playing a drum track from your computer and then jamming along with any instrument is a guaranteed way to boost your mood. Well, it works for me, anyway.

I'm usually a bit of a pessimist, but I'm optimistic I can make this work.

I woke up this morning.
That's positive, right?
I'm starting a tumblr. I hear that's what the cool kids do. I would not mind if you click on it, but be gentle.

Well if all of us dumb teenagers didn't have to complain about every facet of life and feel like absolutely everything is terrible in every way, you wouldn't have any reason to distance yourself from complaining about any given facet of life.
It's all part of a big plan, you see, to make complaining, whining, and mind-shattering pessimism so uncool that people actually stop caring about all of the little problems and start enjoying the little things(like Twinkies) instead.
And yes I did just make a reference and yes I am going to punish myself accordingly.
