The comic is no longer hidden. My bad on that. I've been on holiday.

And I'll say again, I'm sorry about the template. Just bare with us for now.

Hi!
Just a thankyou for nominating my comic "The People That Melt in The Rain" for Best Fantasy! It's really an honor.
Now if you all would just vote for us! :D

Is soliciting votes like that even allowed?
Pro-tip: Solicit people to read your comic instead xP That's what the Smackies are all about. Reading, not winning.

I wouldn't think so, but I've seen a few others do it as well. On my own page, I asked that people go vote for their favorites, and take time to explore new comics - because to me that's what this is supposed to be about. XD

Also, a big thanks to everyone who nominated Amya for Fantasy, Action, and B&W!

I don't think so. I wasn't at least! I didn't find out until it was mentioned in a comment on my comic. :o

Solicting votes is against the rules? People have solicited me for votes for "The Eagle awards", for nominations for "The Harvey Awards"... countless onlines contests, of course Zuda! This is how these things work. If creators don't promote themselves and their work it will stay in obscurity!

Promoting the contest and the fact that you're in it is a good idea, but soliciting votes for yourself is against what the contest stands for. There's a huge difference between "I've been nominated for X, read the other nominated comics and vote for your favourite!" and "Vote for me for X!"

Doesn't stop the authors who say "Vote for me for X!" because they'll do it anyway whether they know they're promoted or not.
And i know that quite a few fans (and authors) who dont look at the News/forums or main site anyway so they're left in the dark anyway.
:| I just find it rather i dunno... not right? for SJ nominees to not even know they were nominated.

I just found out I was nominated today by looking at the post about the awards on the main page and looking through to see what comics were nominated.

Oh, I definitely think they should be notified and they should promote the fact that they're in the running. The lack of notifications is definitely a huge fail on SJ's part.
The parts that irks me is soliciting votes for oneself when the description clearly states that the Smackies aren't about that.

There's also something kind of lopsided if a comic artist who really works hard and has a solid following doesnt even realize their comic has been nominated and neither do their fans, then it wont be a very accurate competition (and yes, this is a competition/popularity contest/what-say you from the way its formatted. If you want a real fair judgement thats not a popularity contest, then it should be done by judge and point based, but because its open-poll this is popularity contest yep). It sorta makes this grand event feel very unofficial because only the forum go'ers and the authors in the forums know the in's and out's of this (tho this is the first time and i know your testing the waters but still, ITS THE FIRST ONE, LETS MAKE IT BIG GUYS SO IT CAN HAPPEN AGAIN)

Though if it is a popularity contest... i kind of think the Popular tab on the Website does it fairly accurate anyway on a fanbase way. But Kudos to the extra exposure to other comics through events.

ANYWAY, I really really like the diverse categories 8<
but the banner could use a little bit of work... yerp, especially the text.

Sorry that the nominees weren't notified. I just barely finished prepping the site before I left for vacation. I should've asked one of the other committee members to do it while I've been away...

...H0ly, are you busy at the moment? *puppy eyes*

This first year has been a bit shakey. It's new for all of us. Hopefully it'll get better and better every year though. Sending PMs to nominees is something that will definitely be done before voting even starts next time. And if you have anymore concerns don't be afraid to voice them. If we could think of these things ourselves...well we would've thought of them. This whole community's been a great help. You're the best!...Aroooound!
