"Like" and "Dislike" forum buttons

But they do have a good idea, I think we should have 'like' and 'dislike' buttons (or something similar) on forum posts- there's a lot of times where a member says something that I was thinking or something funny, but the only way to let them know their genius was recognized is by replying in the thread something inane like 'lol' or 'XD," which annoys forum-goers.

Just a small suggestion, I don't think the community would balk.

Some forums have a karma system. I think something like that might be fun, but I'm not sure I see the point of that for SJ, since the forums aren't really a major thing here. Still, if there's a karma plugin for phpBB that's easy to install, might be worth it.

One forum I go to has a karma system, but it's essentially meaningless. Very few people use it. But we also have it set that once somebody earns enough posts, they can edit their karma level, so that might have something to do with it.

Yeah, that...that would make it pretty useless.

Had a similar suggestion not to long ago. My opinion from that topic still stands against these kinds of things.

A like/dislike system would just turn every post into a popularity contest and make the tyranny of the majority easier, which would pretty much make being me, the perpetual minority, much more difficult.
