/I/ get to do the protecting because /I/ have the super powers that aren't rubbish. Just sayin.
She can see and talk to shadows, things that people would expect to be cold and utterly alien things. But they're cheerful and relatively polite, friendly, and empathetic. And certainly more reasonable than Dara about the whole "lets shove people into personal anti-zones" issue.
Most writers put post-Lovecraftian strange entities that live in places elswise from us as strange and inhuman. In this case they wind up being more approachable than the human they interact with.
@Ezeekat: It's true. We imagine ourselves doing awesome things. If we REALLY think our sisters are that awesome we imagine them doing awesome stuff. In another city. Away from our own stuff. Because we don't to become second string to our sisters in fantasy as well as in real life.

Made me think of this song. Sorry Jessi.

Poor plant is just going to go through another month of suffering and wilting death before she comes in to give him significant looks and revives it again.

A plant's living hell, which it screams with every green cell of its being.
