Today (April 22) marks the 14th anniversary of Mobian Chaos! The comic banner has been updated accordingly.

@ZeroTornado: Glad to see you decided to come back. Yes, my plans for the foreseeable future are to continue this comic through the remainder of the zones of Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

@JovanW: Thanks for the (early) birthday wishes! Yep...another year has gone by. I didn't realize you and I shared birthdays!

@JovanW: This comic takes place in the zones of the Genesis-era game Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Some zone's backgrounds were taken straight from the original level layouts, and others were constructed using sprite kits. But even when I used direct-rip backgrounds, I've often placed custom elements based on how I want to write individual pages.

@JovanW: Although I would certainly prefer people stay up-to-date with my comic, it's better that I have infrequent readers than none at all. Thank you for reaching out to let me know how you feel about my comic!

@JovanW: Thank you for taking the time to catch up with current comics, and for leaving a comment! It's been a little while since anyone's left me feedback.

This past Sunday, Mobian Chaos passed its 13th anniversary! I've updated the banner so it now reads "13 years later."

Six hundred comics! Another milestone.
I wanted to make a larger-than-normal comic to commemorate, but since I was pressed for time this week, I could only manage 15 panels.
@TGG: Thanks for taking the time to read the entire comic from the beginning! As you've probably seen, the comic has evolved over the course of 12 years, and each new zone brings a unique set of challenges, both for the characters and me as a writer.

This upcoming Saturday (April 22) marks the 12th anniversary of Mobian Chaos! In honor of the occasion, I'm making a minor tweak to the comic banner at the top of the page, overwriting the "ten" with a numeral "12." I plan on doing something similar for subsequent anniversaries, for as long as I'm publishing this comic.

For anyone who's wondering, Tails is referring to the switch they toggled in comic 119 that shut all the lights off until comic 124.

@Jorb: Since you've been away for 7 years, let me tell you that ever since I started Launch Base Zone (September 2009), I was forced into changing how I sourced the backgrounds for each panel. Up until that point, I was fortunate enough to come across background kits online, so I could sculpt my own scenes (and therefore had more freedom to write whatever I pleased). After Launch Base, however, I couldn't find kits, and only had backgrounds that others had extracted right from the games. Since the games move at a faster pace than this comic, it's a lot of backgrounds (close to 200 panels for each zone) I have to traverse to reach the end. I *have* been able to skip certain backgrounds, whenever it looks like one scene could directly transition to a different scene down the road. But for the most part, I'm averaging between 80-100 comics for each zone after Launch Base, so in a sense, the pace of the comic has slowed down.
@Ultimate the Hedgehog: It might look that way, but it certainly wasn't my intention. These Genesis-style sprites link together fairly well when it's Tails carrying only one character (because that's what happens in S3&K), but it looks odd to strap a normal hanging pose to the legs of someone else who is hanging.

The release date of this comic is April 22, which means that today (to the day) is Mobian Chaos' 11th anniversary!

I'm turning 28 on February 20. And to think I was only 17 when I first started this comic strip...

EDIT 2/22/16: So far, no one has noticed the reference I was making in the comment at the bottom of the comic.

Five hundred comics was certainly a milestone to behold, but this number, 512, stands out in my mind as well. It's probably because on my DeviantART page (, I mark page view milestones with powers of 2 rather than round numbers like most people. (512 is 2 to the 9th power.)

Just so everyone knows, I won't have a new comic for you on either December 25 or January 1, because I won't have access to my comic-making computer during this time. I need a vacation too.

Let this be my Merry Christmas and Happy New Year messages to you.

@Ackie: Thank you for your kind words! I've been working on this comic for so long that it's hard for me to imagine stopping it altogether.

After having to miss the past two weeks of comics because of my test preparations (thank you all for your patience), I wanted to get something put up here. Though this comic came very close to not existing at all.

This past week was busier at work than I was expecting, and I didn't get a chance to start working on it until Thursday night. And to make matters worse, just when I was putting the finishing touches on the comic, the power went out and the Photoshop file got corrupted. Recovery proved impossible. My only saving grace was that I still had a copy of the extra-large Photoshop template I'd made for comic #500; while I still had to make the comic again, at least I didn't have to rebuild the template from the ground up.

@foxpuff: That appears to be an oversight on my part. I guess I didn't think consciously about what his sprite would look like in that panel because (1) he's half off-screen, and (2) he didn't have any dialogue in that panel. I shall fix it as soon as I get the chance.
