I like hot dames and pie, in that order. And if you compare me to the mass of the universe, I mathematically cease to exist. But I write and draw comics anyway. Screw you, giant universe.

This page took too long. But if you could see how shitty my drawing of Robért was in panel 7 before I statted in the patch art, you'd know it was worth it.

Honestly, the details to keep track of from panel to panel were numerous. I got into comics to avoid getting into animation, but this is basically the same thing.

Also: Any interest in seeing James without the teapot? Anyone?

...see,just to scrub my brain of endless girly bits, I went ahead and drew the full Barrington, then statted the teapot on. And as gourd is my witness, we will see dick in continuity before the end of this 8-issue story. So, feminism. Or something.

(Don't worry, we'll be back to Central Park and the lovely Topless Pulp Fiction ladies soon enough.)

This page is an experimental one -- I've used photos before, but this is the first time I've really put the characters IN in them. I like the results better than I like drawing trees, which I don't like at to do at all.

The meeting is in Central Park, which explains all the topless reading ladies. My current favorite feminists would have to be the Topless Pulp Fiction ladies (@ToplessPulp on Twitter). I wanted to celebrate their unique brand of progressive equalism, and the script DID call for bystanders, so...

I literally stayed up all night to finish this. I'm on 1 hour and 10 minutes sleep. Thus, I have nothing clever to say about it.

Enjoy? Enjoy works.

Why the A-frame page extending from Kathryn's feet? I get bored, is why. If I didn't randomly try to reinvent the wheel, I'd fall asleep (but not, ironically, at the wheel).

The last scene ran a page longer than scripted, so I had to hack at this one with a machete to make it fit in 2 pages. So, one more page at the office, and then it's off the Central Park to stare up a purple man's skirt. (Spoilers.).

I am moved to humanize the gay and the bi and gaybi-curious and pretty much everyone who doesn't get enough respect in real life.

Honestly, I was more than a little scared on some level(s) to execute this page as I've done here, but in being true to the characters and myself, I couldn't step back from this moment ringing in my brain like a bell of clarity and purpose and statement and story and every damn thing it needed to be.

In the wake of the Charlie Hebdo massacre, I wanted to draw something in support of them, but I couldn't think of anything more clever than what other cartoonists came up with; instead, I let them inspire me to take a different kind of risk than they do, but with a touch of the same spirit.

I know I'll upset someone with this page. I may even be risking losing friends over this work. Hell, I could get hate mail, using a Bible quote over a Sapphic sex scene*. But Je Suis, and all that.

(*An idea I got from reading this article at Bible Thumping Liberal; it's well worth a read, whether you're a believer or a science-y atheist such as myself who just thinks Jesus was decent fellow.)

Anyhoo.

This scene is now vastly different from the original script; when I wrote the original version, I didn't "get" that Erica was in love with Kathryn. Having now written 5 years ahead, some things will change -- but always toward how they should have been all along. Put another way: this is the true scene underneath the original scene I wrote.

I hope it's pretty and poetic and not slutty and trashy. It was built with the best intentions, to illustrate the safety of each others' embrace.

Anyhoo.

My favorite part: I had to give Kathryn a new superpower to make this rewrite work.

Yup -- that's marriage, all right!

(Seriously though, my wife is a sweet lady.)
This should have been done Monday night, but oh well. There are well over 50 layers here; there came a point where the work slowed because I lost track of where in the "stack" every picture was. Then I completely rewrote the pages -- I think the only word to survive from the original script is "cocoa".

In case you're wondering, the Artemis trashcan is my favorite thing here. I cackled like a loon several times while working on this because of that horrific thing.

It's all ridiculous Artemis crap, except for the bandage which reads "Aye, Carly!" -- I'm a HUGE fan of iCarly, and it's the kind of bandage Erica would have on hand, since she has a 6 year-old daughter in the house.

About the "background art":
Some of this art has already been seen in Jack's apartment. Most of the artists' other work is listed below in the Contributors' section, the Top 25 section, or the More Cool Comics section. There's a LOT of cool stuff there to check out. Please follow some links. This would have been one hella empty wall without the wonderful contributions and fanarts I've received (I only drew two(!) of the wall pics myself). I am so happy to showcase them like this, and so grateful for all the time everyone spent making them. You all rock.

One page to go to the finale of issue #4, boys and girls and boy-girls.

I will eternally regret MacKnight's damn clock collection. Filling that
space was a time-consuming ass-pain. This still would have been up on
Monday, but I fucked up the first two versions of panels 2 and 3. The
third time was the charm; I'm glad it wasn't the bloody fourth.

Also, I got bored of drawing shadows, so I decided to have a bored
Smiley search for and locate the light switch off-panel, and then mock
them for the unnecessary pomp of the candles' uplighting.

The script originally called for the stabbing itself to be an under-
stated affair resulting in tendrils of metal creeping out under
MacKnight's skin, and then Mr. Linwood prompting Smiley to heal
MacKnight. That approach survived at least the last seven edits to the
script, but when it came time to thumbnail, it bored me.

I opted for splashy comic book-y pizazz instead. I regret nothing.

The issue #4 finale should be up later this week -- after that, I'll
take a 2-week break from new pages, but there will a lot of cool
updates and announcements, so do check in on Mondays, Wednesdays, and
Fridays! Issue #5 starts with the cover on 11/15, and NEW PAGE 11/18!

..and it's time for some MOOBS, Martha Focker.

The script originally called for a shirtless MacKnight in a well-lit room;
somewhere in the rough stage I decided shirtless wasn't going to make
Smiley uncomfortable enough, so I looked at MacKnight and said "OFF WITH
HIS PANTS!!!" so loudly that my neighbors called the police.

The art was finished yesterday morning, but I had a lot of Photoshop post
to do (ended up fucking up that chest lettering and had to redo it), and
the lettering wasn't done 'til 11:35pm (I think I rewrote every single
on this page, some several times over), so I decided FUCK THE VAMPIRES,
I'm'a post in the morn'ting.

I must draw a page of the comic I've been hired to draw before press-
ing on with Eternal Knights, so this will be the only update this week.
