Cal, have you had a chance to look in a mirror yet? How are things looking?
That explains a lot.
The only possible reason for his unbelievable questions at the beginning of the game.

PS: today is my birthday.
The Tragic Backstory
You were here to see it happen.
The big day is finally here!

Daughter of the Lilies is now available exclusively through Hiveworks!

(Originally there were going to be a billion little Hiveworks bees but ain't nobody got time for that.)

But don't worry! This isn't goodbye! I still have a Pokemon Nuzlocke Comic that I update when I need a way to relax, as well as a WHOLE BRAND NEW COMIC THAT WILL BE ANNOUNCED SOMETIME SOON, so keep an ear to the ground!

Thanks, everyone! See you over at the new site!
@Angel_Sin: That's because as of this writing, it's an Affiliate! You can find a link on this page:

Depending on how well the comic does over the next year, it might move to full-time Member, but until then I have to work real hard to make sure it's the best it can be.

Thanks for coming with me! I'm excited to see you there!
@Riz: Pretty much, yeah. They're really gross and kind of horrific.
@jonasfx: Me too! I'm excited to see you there. :)

@DarthHoof: The rare and elusive Orrig Orbs are as timid as they are beautiful.
Starting next week, Daughter of the Lilies will be available exclusively through Hiveworks! Mark your calendars!

Man, you know you're in trouble when the things people are guessing that are going to happen next are WAY cooler than what actually happens. Someone theorized that the first "job" the group was going to get was hunting down a monster that had appeared in a nearby mountain town - which is WAY more dramatic than what's actually on this page

Eh, whatever. Drath are way, way cooler. I promise. Just you wait.

Geez, so much exposition and unexplained things. This chapter is so boring. Ugh.
Professor Orrig
My friend Charlotte guest stars on this page! She let me take some reference pictures of her for those last two panels. You can read HER comic here.

("Zhopa" is a rude word for "butt" in Russian. That's something I learned, and now you know it, too!)

Wedding planning and buffer building ahoy! I'll see you guys next week!
I'm moving to LA.
So, I'm a rather meek character, and I wasn't sure if writing a person like Lyra would be difficult or hard for me to do. But it hasn't so far - I think it's because every character in this story has such a unique personality that they just act on their own.

So, a lot of things have happened this past week! I promised you guys some life-update-changing news, and here it goes:

#1 - So, my fiance got a job in LA about three weeks ago, and last week he and I drove across the country together. He was going just because he had to make it to his first day of work, but I went because it was important to me to see the city, because, obviously, I will be moving there to be with him once we get married, and moving someplace you've never seen before is very, very scary.

(That's why the page was late! I was sitting in a bakery in Burbank trying to update the comic from my cell phone last Monday, which proved to be fruitless.)

The trip was great, though: we made great time, had some fun adventures, and deep conversations, including when and where we wanted to get married.

#2 - We're getting married in MAY (not a lot of time, to be sure) and in my HOME-TOWN (which is 8 hours from where I currently live). So, sometime in April, I'm going to (sadly) leave my job here and move home for a month to finalize wedding plans. That means during the months of April to May, this comic, some other freelance projects, job hunting in California, and wedding plans will be my full time job. I'm not sure what that's going to look like, but I'll at least be home with my family and brothers.

So yeah, a lot of changes on the horizon! February is also the LAST MONTH DOTL WILL BE HOSTED ON SMACKJEEVES before it migrates over to it's new home on Hiveworks. We’ve been working on a new site design and it looks AWESOME so far. I can’t wait to share it with you.

Well, needless to say, I have a lot of stuff to do. This will be the last really long blogpost I’ll write for awhile, but I hope you don’t feel like I don’t love you. :)

Not that you have to, but supporting me on Patreon would really help me out, especially during my upcoming phase of unemployment.

Thanks for reading!

Aw man look at those needle teeth. It's like an Angler Fish.
@smudgeart: Thank you for being so patient! And oh gosh I'm glad you like it! I need to work harder. XD

@Imola: Fixed! Thank you so much for telling me!

Oh my you have no idea how close you are to getting to the core of the universe's lore here. :3

Just kidding. Making you ask the questions I'm manipulating you into asking with the storytelling makes me all fuzzy inside and laugh evilly when I don't tell you.

I think maybe 3 or 4 people actually put two and two together on their own. In cases like that, where the person approaches me quietly and privately, I like to reward them for their ingenuity and confirm little details like that. It's so satisfying when you drop in just enough clues that people can figure it out on their own.
Please, if one of those people was you, identify yourself in the comments! You are the official Gumshoes now. I'll be casting glances at you occasionally throughout the story to see if you pick up on anything else.

Brent's mom and dad met and lived together under very unremarkable conditions - there was no life or death situation involved at any point - but they were very good for each other and provided support that they other never had before. It was very sweet and romantic and one day I might write a comic about it. (See the Patreon page for more information).

So, onto the elephant in the room: this page is two days late and it's only because I was stupid and didn't have the foresight to queue it up in the system before I went on a huge trip. I assumed I could update the website from my phone, but then Monday came and I was completely unable to. This is my first day back at my desk and I'm very sorry to have thrown off your rhythm. I promise I'll do everything I can to keep it from happening again!

I think next week I'll have some major news and general life updates for you. It'll be a big post with a lot of boring real life stuff that you probably won't be interested in, but I'd like to keep you in the know about stuff that could potentially affect the comic. Just so you're not blindsided like this again.

Anyway, Happy Wednesday! I hope y'all are having a good week!

@Zimeta08: Nah, Otto's personality has always struck me more as a practical, logical mind that just sees things as they are. I think humanizing Blue would have been a bit out of character for him, from what I've seen so far.

(Also heck yeah blueberry waffles yo, that stuff's delicious.)

I think what I like most about this entire dynamic between Blue and Otto is that Otto is very upfront and honest about Blue's programming and construction - but neither seems put off by it. There's a very strong sense of mutual respect. I like that a lot.
@Have a rock: Hahaha! I figure Orrig has survived enough of his own horror stories that he's picked up a few tricks to make sure he makes it through. Smart guy!
@Imola: (It was a little bit, but it was way more satisfying to watch all the things that annoyed me disappear.

@Imola: (All the other pages have been revisted, retouched, in some cases recolored, and generally fixed to match the quality of later pages. I'm just saving them for March when the Hiveworks site goes live. Shhhh.)
